Hi - sorry if I am being redundant but I couldn't find anything for the 2012 Prius plug-in. We have tried 3 times to get the start/end times to work to limit charging to off-hours but it doesn't seem to work. We see it charging all day. We leave it plugged in so we don't forget to plug it in, but don't want it to charge during prime time. Are we doing something wrong?? Any advice is appreciated! many thanks!!
debbie, welcome to priuschat. you need to be more specific. it only takes 3 hours to charge. what do you mean by charging all day? some have found that the am/pm are mixed up on their timer and need to be reset. you can only use one of the 2 options, either the start time, or the end time. have you read the manual? all the best!
The usability of the timer is not very good. Without sitting in front of it I don't know how to explain it. But you press the timer button, then possibly change the time with the hour/min buttons, then (maybe) have to press the timer button again. In any case, when you are done the display will go off after a few seconds and you will see a green clock icon on the far right of the dash. If you do not get this, the timer isn't set. Also, make sure the clock in the car has the correct time and correct AM/PM set, else the timer will think it is morning when it is afternoon. Mike
Thanks for the replies!! We use the car during the day but don't want it to charge until night. We will look again to make sure we see the display as you described. We'll let you know how it goes!
Choose either START time, or END time, and forget the other for now. As stated above, make sure the time and AM/PM is correct. Allow three hours if using the factory EVSE, known as the charger. With the time flashing, hold the timer button a few seconds, and you'll see the flashing green clock symbol on the right side of the instrument cluster. That indicates the timer is set. Enjoy your PIP.
I found it very confusing too. After a bunch of button pressing similar to suggestions above I got it working so it is fully charged by 5am. It probably starts around 3 to give in enough time but the car determines the start time, I just set the end time. If you still have problems perhaps your dealer can help. Some of them are knowledgeable, some aren't.
You have to press and hold the button. Then you get options for start/end times. You then have to activate it whenever you want it to be on the timer by pressing the same button once. The system doesn't stay on timer from charge to charge.
It's been mentioned in other posts that the Stop timer starts the PIP charging too early. I only use the Start timer and allow 2-1/2 hours to charge. I change my Start timer 3 times daily: 5am at home for morning charge, 10am at work for partial charge before lunch and 2pm at work for charge before going home. Also something I learned - if the timer is set and you want to turn it off and start charging NOW, just press the Timer button once, the charge clock on the dash will disappear and the PIP will start charging. Remember the LED at the plug will light for 10 sec and then turn off, if the timer is set for later.
Why is that a problem? Mine appears to start at 2am and quits around 4 to 4:30 depending on the amount of charge needed. SOC at 6 is 84.6 or 85, sometimes 85.4
Some people want for their charge to be completed just seconds before they unplug in the morning, apparently. Maybe I should worry about it more, but I'm ok if it sits charged for 12 hours sometimes. I have found that even if I think the battery needs a "complete" charge cycle, the time can vary. It has never taken my car an entire 3 hours to charge up. Generally, it takes between 2.25 and 2.5 hours @110V/15A. Since I leave for work at 6am, I have set the timer to begin charging 3 hours earlier (3:00am) rather than set an "end" time of 6am. I just want it charged by the time I leave.
ukr2, if you want to start charging immediately (which wasn't the OP's question) you don't need to do anything with the button on the dash. Simply plug in the EVSE, and it will start on its own within a few seconds.
The nice part is..... Once you get it setup to the time(start or finish) you want it works simply with one press. ( I use 8:30 AM FINISH as I leave then) So when you come home at end of day, simply press the timer button ONCE and you will see your "familiar" time(either start or finish) pop up for a few seconds, and also the green timer icon will now flash on dash. Then get out, plug in and you will get light for a couple seconds at the plug, then it will go off. The reason there are TWO TIMERS, is one can be used for HOME and other for WORK. Dan
