I'm now past my 25K worth of free services from the dealership and brought it in at 30k and got the oil changed, and a re-alignment. Now I'm at 35K and wondering if I should bother bringing it in or just wait till 40K for another oil change and checkup? With new cars I'm usually a stickler on bringing the car in every 5K, but with this car it just seems like a waste of time and money to bring it in more often than every 10K at this point...
Do it yourself every 10k oil change, every 30k for engine air filter, 15k for cabin air filter, 60k for transmission drain and refill, wiper inserts once it cracks and brittle and stops working, brake pads when you hear the brake noise, brake fluids with the brake jobs at the dealer, and 110k for your HV battery, regular small battery every 6 years or when it dies, head light bulbs whenever it blows out. Anything else?
I service the car myself, according to the schedule, and record it in the book and online at the Toyota site.
Do you mean the cabin air filter? I replaced that myself last week. Was only $7 for a new filter, but i think you meant the engine air filter... I don't think they replaced that. prob should have tho
I just bought an engine air filter from Amazon - just under $10 shipped. It is quite literally a snap to install - just unsnap the cover under the hood, pull out the old, put in the new and snap the cover back on.
+1 I do the exact same thing. With all the horror stories I hear about the dealerships- I refuse to take my car there unless it's unavoidable!
Now at 140k mi I have always done my own service every 5k mi. I use Mobil 1 synthetic oil and extra capacity Mobil 1 oil filters. Tire rotations every 5k mi, a dealer service at 100k.
HV battery warranty expires at 10years, but that means nothing in terms of when it needs to be replaced. Engine warranty expires at 36K miles. They don't just randomly explode at 36,001 miles. HV packs when not abused will last many hundreds of thousands of miles. When abused, maybe a couple hundred thousand miles. Lots of people are running original batteries with 200K+ miles on them. Few with taxis are running original batteries with 400K and 500K miles on it. Other things to replace when the car gets up there would be spark plugs and start checking the CV joints. As for regular maintenance, just do it yourself. Synthetic 0w20 every 10K miles is good enough. Other fluids and intervals mentioned above are reasonable.
I do my own service every 5k mi using Mobil 1 synthetic oil and an extra capacity Mobil 1 oil filter.
After the 30k oil change, I plan to do service every 10k miles. This is the interval recommended on Hondas since 2001 before they they got oil life computers installed so I don't see the duration as being excessive. My 2006 Civic with the oil life computer usually landed on 10k miles so I know I am good.
