...nice...now try to fit 'em inside the c. OK you cannot violates laws of physics, but a 10-ft'er or less has a shot inside a Prius Liftback. Have not tried it yet though, hard enough to get it in my minivan. One guy puts a 10-ft inside with liftback tie down. PS- I don't know about the OP but the straps I got a REI have a clear plastic tube over the paint.
Are tie-down ropes needed with TIP type bracket? They haven't been necessary with my FLAT type bracket. I've carried both my 12' and 14' kayaks at the same time on the roof my Prius just fine that way. However, for piece-of-mind on long highway trips, I have actually secured the rack itself with rope. That doesn't touch the paint though. It's a simple matter of tying onto the base of the hood near the windshield. There's a photo of that in the User-Guide.
those were the straps that came with the kayak rack after taking that picture I drove to walmart and bought a set of ratcheting straps, so much better. I don't think I need to use the front and rear straps, seems pretty secure without em, but id rather be safe lol roofrack is a Sportrack, roof rack system and the kayaks are on a swiss cargo 3 in 1 kayak rack that attatches to the cross bars
I'm not sure I would trust those straps going around the plastic bumper. Or at least don't tighten them too much.
Yes, please give us some model numbers, My kayak is very lonely sitting in the garage. Is that a kayak attachment for that rack?
lol, I should have checked this five mins ago, I just had the box for the rack right here.. but put it out in my garage. give me an hour or so and when I run out there I will get the model of the racks. yes two pieces, theres the roofrack with is the two cross bars, which ran me about $165 ( on sale) then the kayak carrier mounts on those, I got that at dicks sporting goods, for $149 lemme see if I can find them online.. bam! rack SportRack Complete Roof Rack System 2 | Canadian Tire carrier Dick's Sporting Goods - Swiss Cargo 3 In 1 Multifunction Kayak Carrier customer reviews - product reviews - read top consumer ratings
roofrack was a little bit of a pain to get on, as the car is not listed in the manual that coms with it that shows what measurements to use to fit it to the car, so trial and error till I got it on there good. but its on there solid. and I havent taken the rack or carrier off since I put them on. very very slight mpg hit I think. ( bigger very noticeable mgp hit wit the kayaks on. day I bought them was incredibly windy out as well, that was a very fun drive home with which was basically a sail on my roof haha)
I just look at the air sucking drag holes in the kayaks and cringe. Still has to be better fuel mileage than on top of an SUV.
Most kayaks I have seen at 70 MPH aren't. Even better in a rain storm without a cover. The water goes where?
Sweet kayak's and rack! Looking to duplicate what you got going on here. Was wondering, how loud is the wind noise when driving on the highway speeds with just the rack on? Do you use a wind fairing? How difficult is it to put the rack on and or remove it?
wind noise is pretty loud, I keep the sunroof closed luckily it only take about 3 mins to remove the racks. there locked with a key, then an allen key bolt underneath the lock to remove the racks.
