    Movin on up...
69.5 at avg speed of 40 mph.
From June 13th to July 1st.
Conditions 90% of days were clear with temps in the low 80s to upper 70s. I Did have a couple days of HEAVY HEAVY down pour rain that took me down 1 MPG that I had to recoup from.
Using stock yokohamas with 39k on them. Filled at 40 PSI all around
I have a 24 mile strech of interstate each day, I just ride in the far right lane, pulse and gliding with the gentle hills along the way, hoping to get behind another slow car or even better semi and ride the length of my drive. I try to keep my speeds low if possible at around 60 max, even though speed limit is 70, its never heavy traffic so others just go around....

You have that backwards, higher tire pressure helps on wet roads. Feel free to experiment with anything below sidewall max.

Hey guys, it's been a while since I've tried for the records. In my recent travels, I was averaging around 58mpg for my normal commutes then I thought I would try to one up my past record of 59.9 with about 1 gallon left. Lo and behold I managed an 87.8 for 36 miles and then a 73mpg trip for 20 or so. This ended up tying my record of 59.9mpg which I was glad to do. This has given me renewed interest in shooting for those high 60's although it's hard to make an attempt on the record with daily commutes where I'm at and with short commutes to boot. :( And I have a semi long trip coming up too which sucks so there goes my 60+ trip attempt. I know my car can do it I just need 500 miles of flat straight open road with no cars and I'll be back in the top 20. I was there briefly last year. My best tank so far is 553 miles at 59.9 mpg. Be on the look out for this c. :)

Can I make an entry with my PiP if I don't plug it in during the 500 miles?

    • Gentle on the accelerator, glide when possible, opportunistic drafting. All the driving was necessary. Commute is 12 miles each way.
    • Time of year: last two weeks in June 2013 in the Washington DC area. Warm and cloudy most days with some rain, but not many heavy downpours.
    • Tires: Bridgestone Ecopia 44 front, 42 rear
This should keep me on the list for another week or so... 69.2 mpg tank.JPG

This is a great Job! I am really grad to see more people join this. As F8L said, the goal is to encourage more people joining, so that small piece of saving gas will ultimately multiply to zillions gallons wherever Prius exists.

I've uploaded the excel spreadsheet that generates the table and the graph. Because the original table does not use standard names, there are two styles for "GenIII", it is not optimized. Also, I'm not a good enough excel wizard to figure out how usernames could be added to the graph in a way that makes sense. Regardless, please feel free to pickup the spreadsheet.

It's funny how the summer heat is really not allowing too many new entries right now. Or really sad...however you look at it. ;)

You guys are throwing up some really impressive numbers!

I am going to split up the list according to model like everyone has agreed to. I need to do it on a regular computer though so I'll get to it tomorrow or the next day. Please bear with me. :)

Here is my best record..thanks.. I have a prius c with factory 15 inch alloys tire size 175-65-15.. inflation 35 psi.
I did the same drive cycle everyday on this tank, and in the month of may.. 25 mile trips to and from work..this includes about two miles of city driving and 23 miles of all hwy..When on the streets i use EV only as much as the car will allow.. On the hwy i will enter with almost full power until i reach 50 mph, then i will ease back and cruise to 54 mph. once i reach 54 mph i will let off the accelerator and cost to 42 mph, then i will hit max EV range until i drop to three bars of battery life.. i will basically repeat this cycle until i exit the hwy.

I'm pretty sure I had a short fill because I had to invert the nozzle. The 10.9 gallons consumed appears to be right. I only got about two miles down the road before 'dry tank.'

This is the "flash" indicating 2.34 gallons were remaining. I normally use 2.1 gallons but in this case, I was on a grade which may have led to an earlier than expected "flash."

I had added 1 gallon about four to five miles away. But if we use the next tank, fill gas divided into the final 'dry tank' miles, 10003/12.1 = ~82.9.

I'm not sure what a photo of the empty tank does.

    Summary:
    • Use cruise control set for 26-27 mph
      • shift into "N" when energy flow shows charge to traction battery
      • shift into "D" and "resume" to:
        • moderate speed
        • come to a stop
        • returning to set speed
    • Select routes and times that allow 25 mph traffic
      • multiple lanes and change lanes so overtaking traffic does not have to change
      • use left-turn lane or parking lot to let following traffic pass
      • when two lanes of traffic overtaking, hit "emergency flashers" so they can change and pass
      • 4:00 AM - 7:00 AM, 1:00 AM - to nap time, 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
      • take right-hand yield routes
      • July 7-21, 2013
    • Car fully prepared
      • tires fully inflated
      • Scangauge II - used to monitor engine coolant, engine rpm, fuel consumption, and instant MPG to four decimal places
      • driving on "flash", use energy flow display to detect 'dry tank' when all energy flow arrows go away
      • tires Sumitomo T4 195/65R15, replaced by Toyota Service Center, originals had a nail that could not be repaired
        • GPS and trip meter error less than 1%
Off hand, I think this means an entry in every "xxx mile" tank list and an entry in the "Top 20" list. Perhaps a few updates are warranted:
