The BMW was eating one quart of oil per week, and the gasoline was approx. $120 dollars per week. The first week of the Prius has been unbelievably efficient- Averaging 53mpg. I drive alone, in Southern California freeway traffic- approximately 60 miles per day. Gentlemen, I think I found the perfect commuter car... ! I bought dealer CPO Prius III, couldn't be happier...
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who traded a BMW for a Prius (2013 v in my case). Learning to P&G, warp stealth etc makes driving fun in a different way when compared to the BMW.
Welcome! With the readouts saving money is sorta like a video game. My wife consistently gets 45-47MPG. I get 49-52. My techy son loves to get 60+ and has gotten 67 on country roads doing 45mph. Yes, it does make friving interesting while saving fuel cost.
Oh no! Why? j/k, I did the same. The Prius is awesome for what it is.. but I do miss my BMW too.. While on vaca in Socal, in the infamous traffic, I found the Prius to be perfect for those condition.. almost stop and go and moving at 20-40 mph yield some of my best mpg! I was wondering why aren't there more Prius driver there.. then when the freeway opened up, I saw why.. like caged animals!
Yes, I miss some aspects of the BMW- I will probably buy another weekend sports car at some point. As for commuter cars, the Prius is just about perfect. The only thing better would be a plug in version, but then the price of that car would overshadow any fuel savings for me...
HELLO EVERYONE. IT'S GREAT TO SEE IM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO TRADED HIS BMW FOR A PRIUS. ITS BEEN A MONTH NOW, IM ENJOYING THE PRIUS FOR WHT IT IS... HAVING SAID THAT I DO MISS DRIVING MY BMW, BUT REALISTICALLY THIS CAR FITS MORE MY NEEDS. I MUST SAY IT FEELS REALLY AWSOME NOT VISITING THE GAS STATION THAT OFTEN.
A BMW daily driver isn't very practical. A 400 mile range for $30 is pretty sweet. I used to pay around $55-$60 for 300. I try to keep that in mind whenever I get passed!
I have 4 lights on one of my commutes so getting passed by the "rabbits" turns out to be a good thing
Considering how much fun one can have driving a BMW, especially on twisty roads, and that they can usually carry more than just one other person with a good level of comfort, and they are quite practical. Economical? Well... no. Congrats and enjoy the savings. I made a similar jump, and I have zero regrets.
