I installed a set on my wife's Gen2. It seems to work great. Much quieter, traction is decent, and pretty cheap too. Heard people said it gets bad mpg, but not on this set of tires on this Prius. So wonder if anyone else tried these tires?
Recently, nothing to report yet. Falken tires are good quality. I'm pretty sure their parent company made the Goodyear Integritys that Gen II Prii came with. We'll have to wait and see what the MPGs are.
sorry to bring up an old thread but how was the mpg on the set of falkens? im thinking of getting these too
Has 15k miles now. They are still looking good. Getting about 48-50 mpg on daily commute. My wife drives it, so she does not baby the Prius to get best mpg. Very quiet and smooth for a car not insulated at all.
Thanks for the reply. I also read online that these tires lowered mpg but i wanted to hear from a fellow prius. Good to know now off to the tire shop =)
The set of 211s I installed caused a loss of about 6 MPG. At the moment, my car is in need of a set of tires. I was going to get a set of Ecopia 422s but am now thinking of testing out the new low rolling resistance Falken 914s. These have not been out for long and I know nothing about them. Falken is offering a $50 rebate on them for the rest of this month. With that in mind, they might not be too much of a gamble.
I run about 40/38 psi front/back. I am in the SF Bay Area, so little to no humidity and almost 4 seasons of spring/fall like weather.
These were not on my car, however, even over inflating them (51 PSI) didn't bring back the MPGs the Integritys had. I did the math and the cost of extra fuel was much more than the savings on the tires.
I'd like to share that Falken has some kind of satisfaction guarantee. I think it is 30 Days. If you purchased a set and are unhappy, you might want to let them know.
Update: picked up a set of these falken sn211 185/65/15 and the ride is great. Nice, smooth, and quiet. MPG stayed about the same.. maybe 1 or 2 mpg fluctuation depending on how you drive of course. inflated at 40/38. Im thinking of running 42/40 to see if it'll increse mpg. Overall good buy for the price. Thanks for the thread guys. Go Prius!
Integrity? Really? I rather drive a summer only tires on snow than go back on those tires on a Prius. Those are some of the worst/dangerous tires ever made.
As for these tires. Have them on for 20k miles now. Still very smooth, most importantly quiet, and getting similar miles to most LRR tires.
When my wife drives to work, like she used to with other tires, the mpgs are about the same as other LLR tires. For her, it has been between 48-50 mpg.
