Blu Logic Bluetooth in G1, its awesome!

Hi everyone, I know I have posted before, but with no pics. Here are the long promised pics. I have to say after 5 weeks of use, this thing is simply incredible. The clarity, and the voice recognition is unreal. Plus it integrates magically with the iPod kit, as soon as the call is over, the iPod kit takes over and the music resumes where I left off. The bluetooh kit will stop the iPhone 3GS music playback, and mute all audio, and then you hear the phone ringing. The iPhone's voice recognition feature is used, and you can tell it to playback music through the bluetooh as well, as it has A2DP. Music clarity is excellent, except when you have the Equalizer setting on the bass too high, which is fine. The funny part is how you control the bluetooth music and phone volume on the button rather than the radio, which is fine, because the audio clarity and strength rival the stereo anyway, and bass output is very impressive! The installation was so easy, and it took all of 15 minutes (minus cutting the punch out and threading wiring through, which took me about 30 more minutes!). I mounted it to the left of my glove box. I just love it, and everyone says my voice is so clear. I played with microphone positions, and found that the roof area on our G1's is by far the quietest, contrary to logic. The steering column already has my navigation microphone kit, so I did not want to make it look ugly by have two there! At any rate, its was totally worth what I paid, and I hope all of you can enjoy too. Any questions, please ask. Toyota Canada has already called me to verify installation, and they are thrilled it works with older models. My mom also has this in her 2006 Yaris hatch, and she loves it too. As for their return policy, I did not have one, as I bought it off a fellow on Kijiji! He sold it for $120 brand new!

The pouch is from a portable hard drive, and I used that to hold my iPhone in place while I was driving. The iPod kit provides the necessary power, and that kit plugs into the harness that connects to the slave CD player (on the right side of the unit, as the driver is facing it), but it technically has no connection at all to the Blu Logic kit. The Blu Logic kit is simply for making or receiving calls (via voice commands or phone input), or listening to music (again through direct contact or voice command). Oh and it does not have to be just a phone, I have a 3rd Generation iPod Touch, and the Touch connected through bluetooth, and played music excellently.

Oh and in case anyone is wondering, the range is over 30 feet! I found this out because I was listening to music on my wife's iPhone, and dropped her off at the mall, and I could still hear it while she crossed the mall parking, and even when she went into the mall. At about 50 feet, the signal stated to get jumpy then finally disappeared. Most impressive! And yes it auto connects everytime you start the car (it gives you a quick, but sophisitcated sounding beep when you start up the car), and if you are already on the phone, and start the car up, it transfers to the Blu Logic kit right away. Its very slick and very cool!

Toyota gives absolutely ridiculous instructions, and are great as long as the car you buy is a 2010 Prius, Camry or Tacoma. Here are my simple instructions for 2001-2003 Prius owners.
1) Remove the faceplate for the cd slave player. It is held in place by two black tabs on either side, then simply pull back on it using the sides, it will simply pop off.
2) Disconnect the cigarette lighter connector and coin tray light.
3) Feel around underneath for the two male connectors on the left rear of the radio. ITS A TIGHT FIT, especially if you have a Navigation harness like I do, but there is overall, sufficient room.
5) Once the two male connectors are removed, simply plug them into the female connectors on the Blu Logic kit, then plug the male connectors from the Blu Logic Harness into the back of the radio. There will be one more male connector left, that is the accessory wire for newer Toyota radio's and is totally unnecessary for our applications.
6) Then simply connect the colour coded connectors on the other side of the Blu Logic Harness to the Blu Logic Bluetooth module. Its all colour coded so you can't go wrong!
7) Then mount the module, microphone and Blu Logic button wherever you see fit, or according to my installation. That is it!! You are done!

It will work fine with Nav installed. Except that you have to turn off the voice navigation on your Nav if you are going to listen to Bluetooth, otherwise the voice guidance on the Nav will cause the Bluetooth unit to go mute. If you are not using voice guidance the two live happily together. However even if you forget, just turn off the Bluetooth on your phone and turn back on and reconnect, it will start again.

 

Absolutely. The sound quality and bass are. Superior to the stock radio! However they only work off the front speakers, but don't worry it is plenty loud an sounds do good, you don't even miss the rears at all, and I am and audio freak. I am driving to Vegas from Toronto on Sunday, and it will be awesome to listen to audiobooks, movies and music on the go.
