Inverter Coolant Tempurature question???

    hi all

    I finally can program my Scangauge 2 with new gauge call ICT which is Inverter coolant Tempurature, now I have a question:

    1. my ICT gauge read about 103-125 degree F. we have HEAT WAVE right now at San diego:), is that normal??? What the range that should be?

    2. My water Temp is about 195- 198 degree, is that normal?

    3. Which gauge you guys think are Important should display at Scangauge 2?

    4. Does Scangauge 2 have any Alert Function that I can set up that something is out the range that will overdrive the display and only display the Alert?

    My engine coolant runs at 194f when speed is around 60 with AC off and outside temps are moderate, your reading look normal to me.I have an UltraGauge which allows you to set alarms on the limited variables I can see, I wish I had spent the extra money and bought a Scan gauge.

    What I remember from reading ICT is that it typically ran about 20F above ambient.

    you meant is 20F above outside temperature??

    I think ambient is correct. Your engine compartment my not be the same as the outside temperature if you are grill blocking.

    Below is a chart of the evolution of several temperatures in a 9.7Km (6.2miles) urban trip at 40ºC (104ºF) ambient temperature. In this trip my car reached the max inv coolant temp I have recorded.

    The inverter coolant temperature (black line) is almost stable at 54ºC (129ºF) while MG1 and MG2 rises since the beginning of the trip all the way till the end, reaching 79ºC (174ºF).

    MG1 inverter and boost inverter temperatures show sudden oscillations of +10C and up to +30C (boost inv) coming back to the baseline temperature (55ºC=131ºF) after some 200m (0.12miles)

    yes I liked it my friend, thanks so much for your info, I have a question for you Frank, what gauge you display most the time? when which gauge you think are important for the long trip? scangauge 2 can only diaplay 4 gauge at the time, I think water temp is one of them, but so unsure the last 3 what I should I use? also do you know that scangauge 2 had any alert function at all?

    Since you consider heavy duty towing, MG1+MG2 temps are your priorities. Engine oil is too, but no sensor IIRC.

    Just wondering engine oil temp must be close to ICE coolant they are in the same block ... maybe not.

    In most engines oil is not cooled by coolant and can be much hotter under heavy duty service (up to 300F). This is why thicker oils are recommended for heavy duty service. I'm afraid 0W20 will not be good enough.

    My ICT varies enormously depending on outside temperature. Sounds normal to me.

    hi all

    After few days try out the new setting:

    RPM
    MG1
    MG2
    Water coolant Temp.

    now I have few question hope all of you can help me to understand

    1. Water coolant is about 195-205 in about an hour driving in highway speed 75
    2. MG1 Temp. about 175-223, is that 223 is ok, or what is the max? or what is normal? what number when I start get worry?
    3. MG2 Temp. about 175-223, is that 223 is ok, or what is the max? or what is normal? what number when I start get worry?

    MG1 and MG2 is in the same housing swimming in the same "oil" so measuring both temp is not necessary I bet they are the same or within the error rate..

    As to what is the max or the worry temp not sure.

    1. That is not unusual. Typically you will see the inverter running about 10 - 15 degrees Farenheit above Ambient Temperature (e.g. the outside temperature displayed in your car on your Heating/AC display). If you are in slower traffic (slow and go traffic or city driving) it will increase to about 20 degrees Farenheit. For example, if you were driving on the Freeway and your the outside air temperature is 85F, you can expect your inverter to be running around 95F - 100F. Now you exit the freeway and do some surface street driving. You can expect your inverter temperature to increase to 100 - 105F.

    2. That seems perfectly normal. My range is 190F in the cooler winter months (50F) and 195 - 198 in the hotter summer months (90F).

    3. Your choice. I run the inverter and water temperatures because I grill block in the winter. I also run the RPM and MPH because I'm interested in knowing the RPM's and my true speed..

    That exactly right. That what I meant both are churning in the same transaxle fluid (I called oil which it is). So no real temp difference should be expected btw MG1 and MG2.

    But I have not really measured them my SGe can not do this things need one of that ODBII bluetooth thingy...
