How do I get started on this project? Does anyone know what I need? I'd love to have it integrated and also to add an aux input.
I have a 2005 Prius, I installed an XM radio kit some years back, The radio was a slim metal box that fit into and behind a trunk side panel, with some long wires coming out of it, I ran the wires discreetly hidden under carpet edges and door sills from the back of the Prius to the front. The end of the wires was a special connector that fit into a slot in the back of the existing Prius radio. Getting that plug to slide into that rear plug was very difficult and time consuming because I did not want to disassemble the entire dash, although I did pull the AC grilles out to get access. I finally made a kind of jig that allowed me to hold the plug, position it, and pull it into place, but it must have taken about fifty tries to get it to work. Once hooked up (and with new antenna on roof) it worked perfectly. The XM stations appear on the display screen by pressing the AM radio selector, so from the exterior, one cannot tell you even have this additional radio, except for the tiny antenna on the hatchback roof. I don't have an aux input either and would like to add one.
Royal744 - was this the same kit you can buy here @ PriusChat's store? I have the JBL/NAV without Aux - and looking to do the integrated install.
