I couldn't find this in a search, to I imagine its around somewhere. How much does the 04 battery pack weigh? How much for just the batteries and how much for the whole unit (casing, electronics, etc) thanks, brian
I think I read the pack is about 120lbs. I can't seem to find the spec in my NCF, but 100-120lbs is about the range.
The Classic Pack was 110 I think, and I thought the 04 was lighter. do not know. But somewhere in there.

Prius's battery is warranted for 8 years, 100,000 miles nationally with the exception of NY, CA, and MA, where it is warranted for 10 years. Its battery weight has been reduced from 76 to 45 kilograms of total battery mass from the 1st to 3rd generation. (There have been only two versions sold in the U.S.) "
well 45 kilos is 99 lbs and apparently 99 lbs it is... according to Toyota Tech site the original Prius released in 1998 had a 76 kg(167.2 lbs) pack the @nd Generation Prius in 2001 had a 52 kg (114.4 lbs) and finally the 2004 with its 45 kg or 99 lbs battery pack. oh well i said 89 lbs... not bad one out of two... got the "9" part right...
In the Netherlands the car is rated 171 kgs less for road tax, according to Toyota over here that's the additional weight the total electrical system add to the car (including the 45 kgs for the battery).
Hmmm, does this mean if I go to NY or MA to buy a Prius my battery is warranted for 10 years, regardless of where I live? I can be in NY in about 30 minutes, worth the trip if I get an extra 2 years warranty!
why bother? its still 100,000 miles... unless you are the type that drives less than 10,000 a year you are wasting your time
Actually, until last year I DID average < 10K miles per year, every year, for about TWENTY FREAKING years! Am I boring or what!! Current car '95 Odyssey, picked up May 9, 1995 has 95K miles on it now. Last couple of years have been > 11K, only because my daughter has been skating and doing ballet, more 'taxi service' trips and driving to skating comps throughout NE. Let's see, she's 11 now, in college in 7 years, no more trips to distant rinks, back to < 10K per year ;-) So for me, yes, an extra year or two could be useful.
The ten-year warranty is worth something for anything up to 12,500 miles a year, which is where the standard hybrid warranty switches over from 8 years to 100,000 miles.
