Hi there.. Been around a while but this is my first post. I have been driving a 2003 with no issues and just bought another one to have fun with. It's a 2002 with 150k. When I picked it up it was dead and I had to jump the 12v battery. the weird thing is i could not pull the key out And it does not really click into park like my other one. Was driving it around and it just died while in motion. I popped in a new 12 v and it still would not start. The ready light flashes as well as the abs light. I took it to a local shop that does prius batteries to pull the codes. I got a lot of codes all braking related. C1259 c1202 C1571 C1572 C1271-C1278. The shop I took it to really only does batteries so they didn't have any suggestions. Any suggestions from you guys? I am stuck. Thanks in advance.
Check the orange traction battery interlock switch to make sure it is properly installed. When the switch is inserted into its socket, you must rotate the lever 90 degrees. Then you must slide the lever to lock it in place. If that doesn't help, you may need to seek professional assistance. There may be other DTC logged, related to the hybrid vehicle system.
Thanks for the reply. There were no hybrid related codes stored when they scanned it. I will look into the interlock switch but how would that be related to the symptoms? Just trying to understand... Thanks in advance.
It is not clear to me from your OP whether you were previously able to drive the car at some point. If yes then the traction battery interlock switch is probably correctly installed. One reason for DTC C1259 is if the interlock switch is not in place. However in that case no voltage will be produced by the traction battery. Hence the engine will not start.
THanks for the response. Yes I had been driving it albeit was only about 50 miles total. It actually died while I was driving it. THe only symptoms that it presented to me previously was that the 12V was dead and the key would not turn to the off (lock) position. It ran fine after I charged the dead 12V and put it back in.
The NHW11 OBD interface uses one of the CANbus lines as an interface to the brake controller. When a generic scanner that tries to auto-discover if the car is using CAN or ISO-9141, it can 'spike' the brake controller. This will light the brake warning lights and induce a large number of "C" codes. When you get a chance, read the 'sticky' threads about OBD scanners and the NHW11. Bob Wilson
Thanks for the response. I took it to a shop that all they do is prius hybrid related items; main battery, 12v battery, inverter, transaxle. When they used their scanner (computer interface not sure of the program) no hybrid or ICE codes came up. Just the ones that I have listed in the OP. I agree with you on the "spike" I was pretty sure that all of the speed sensors didn't fail at once =). The only one that was concerning to me was the c1259. No p codes at all. I am just puzzled on why it does not run and so was the prius battery guy.
