Most of the time I set my cruise control, it ends up off by 1 mph, either above or below the set speed. It usually stays on the speed I set it to until I go up or down hills, or have to cancel then resume it. Has anyone noticed this happening with theirs? 2012 C2.
That is just a characteristic of a digital speed display. You would never notice this on an analog speed meter. I have found that if I get to a steady-state speed, say 60 mph, and hold that speed before setting the cruise and then try to hold that speed for a second or two after setting that it does a better job of maintaining the set speed. It is just that if you set it closer to 59.5 or 60.5 then it will flip back and forth going up and down hills.
That's what I was worried about. I was hoping the Cruise Control would round up to a whole number instead of giving me fractions. Thanks for the reply.
Now that I'm driving a standard Prius as a rental, I can see this is not the problem. The regular Prius has no problems reaching the speed I set via cruise, it doesn't go to 1 mph below the speed then take 30 to 60 seconds to finally reach the set speed, nor does it fluctuate 1 mph over or under each time I hit "resume." It just gets it right every time. This tells me it's not really a matter of rounding up due to a digital speedometer. Is anyone else seeing this on their Cs?
You are worried about +-1 mile an hour? My previous car was lucky to keep it within +-3 miles an hour. If this really bothers you, there are medications that can help.
Yes, it's quite annoying to me. My question is whether this is normal across all Cs or not, so I can determine if there's a defect or not. If it didn't annoy me, I wouldn't have bothered to post my question.
Thanks Reedja. Believe it or not, it happened a little to me today in my Prius rental (Gen3). I think next time I drop off my C for service, I'll test drive a new one and see if it happens.
