Was disappointed to find that even though I could download the Entune EV Apps to my iphone 5 from ITunes after signing up for them with a Safety Connect account, the iphone 5 is not compatible with just those services What phones are ? Anybody using the EV Apps: Charge Management, Ecco Dashboard, Remote Climate or Vehicle Finder ?
I thought that all iOS and Android devices support these Advanced Apps. After activating the apps on the Entune web site, you have to connect the phone to the car and open the Apps on both the car screen and on the phone and let it go through its "update" step, before the Advanced apps will show up on the phone.
My iPhone 5 works fine with all of the apps. You have to have Entune running on the phone, and you have to pair the phone via BlueTooth with the car. USB is not required.
Well that's encouraging - also noticed that the Entune site shows : The Plug-in Hybrid & EV Apps within Entune are compatible with Apple iPhone® and Android™ smartphones only. But when you check the compatibility site at Toyota's connect webpage it shows that iphone 5's aren't compatible for the EV apps. Will have to play with the system some more and report back. The apps come on but don't connect to the car.
Note that the Advanced Apps (like charge level) do not connect directly to the car. They go over the phone's Internet connection and talk to a server, which makes a data call to the Safety Connect cell phone built into the Advanced. This is how they can work when you are not near the car. (The locator app would be pretty pointless if you had to be within Bluetooth range to use it. )
Got help from Toyota and whatever they did got it working for me now Turned my phone completely off, plugged it into the arm rest, turned car on, and then turned phone on. Happy camper.
