Why did you buy a v and not a Prius Liftback?

Hi everyone...first post, just got a '13 Prius V III. Barcelona Red, traded a Pathfinder due to gas mileage. Picked the V over the lift back for space...dogs, camping gear etc. coming from SUVs we needed the big one. This is the wife's daily and I enjoy my VOLT.

Couldn't be happier with the V so far.

Toyota for some unknown reason, took the rear hatch (end) of the Aztec (the ugliest car made) and put it on the prius. a lot of people complained about the visibility issue of that hatch lid ( split glass ) also, at some time or other your gonna need some more room. always when you least expect it !

One of us is 6'-5" & the other 5'-10". Even at 6'-5" the standard Pri is ok for me. We voted against the V, strictly because the head room/entry. At 5'-10", entry is awkward for my wife, due to back fusion. It's difficult to enter, if you can't sufficiently bend your neck/back/head, she felt. Otherwise the V would be great for both of us ... especially because there's no flybridge. If Toyota ever makes it a plug-in, I'd use my veto power (which I hardly am ever entitled to get :p ) and get the V anyway.

What is it that makes the entry difficult/uncomfortable?

I went the other direction. Went out planning to get a v and ended up with a regular lift back. I didn't really have the luxury of time due to needing a replacement car since my old one was totaled. Unfortunately the dealers in the area didn't have the exact color and trim in the v I was looking for. I also wasn't too pleased with the middle of the back seat in the v. Its basically useless imo, except for a car or booster seat. One dealer did have a regular lift back in the right color and trim and suggested I try it out. I was reluctant but kinda liked the extra zip and mpg. They offered me a great price and thru in some extras. So here I am with a regular liftback Prius.

I got the Liftback because the MPG was my first choice. It is just the 2 of us.

post surgery posture doesn't allow her neck/spine to be flexible enough to enter/exit comfortably enough due to the windshield / roof slope

Prius has more room for my golf clubs. I don't feel so small on the highway. I like the dashboard controls better for heat and AC (only V has the knob with the 3 modes). MPG is less but only slightly! More leg room. No hump on floor in back seat (I don't know maybe Prius hatchback has done away with that too). Back seats slide forward and back just like the front seats. Is that enough? I love it!!!! A huge loss for ALL Prius types is only being able to do keyless lock/unlock from the driver's side. I really miss being able to lock from the hatchback door and the driver's side. Toyota needs to bring this back.

It is available but only on the Prius v 5 unfortunately. The Liftback does have a flat rear floor (well, flat enough. it's maybe a cm or two hump)

Minus the golfclubs, Griana wrote my post.
The Prius vagon was my choice for the best station wagon on the market. If I had not needed that extra cargo space then the Prius liftback would have won hands down.

When I eventually retire and can stop driving so much, I'll be very happy with a Honda Fit EV or LEAF, assuming I can fuel it with clean energy.

I had no idea about the love I'd end up having for the Prius' my Saab was getting painted and the insurance company sent me over to the rental facility late in the evening on a Friday. The only thing left was a Camaro and a Prius and I knew I didn't want or need the Camaro so I decided to take the Prius. Little did I know I was going to fall in love. The paint shop ended up having quite the time matching the custom paint so I had about 42 days with the Prius and from day one until day 42 I was sold. Around the 30 day mark I started looking into purchasing one and no more than a few minutes after having my Saab back I was at the stealership getting a 2013 at 0.00% although I didn't rent the V I knew I needed something bigger so that is why I purchased it over the others although the choice between 2012 and 2013 were purely based on interior design changes that I preferred. Either way I'm a happy owner of the prius v five and I'm not looking back.

You had me at "I had no idea about the love I'd end up having for the Prius' ..."
I'm excited to hear about the interior design differences (2012 vs. 2013) and any insights you care to share.

Enjoy your ride. I know you will in that near perfect Florida weather and terrain.

after test driving the Prius I got into a Prius V. First thing that did it for me was the dashboard. The gauges seemed brighter and more upscale with a touch of color. The ride quality was the other thing that won me over. The V just seems to be in a different class in terms of ride quality. Everything just feels a little more substantial.

No, not at all. I had the Saab 9-3 Aero Sportcombi and not only was the rear leg room smaller than the "V" the cargo hold was annoyingly smaller as well. I noticed this large difference when I started taking out everything that I had in the cargo hold and putting it in the "V". I noticed more space available. Then I put the two Paul Frank Clek Foonf car seats using the latch system in the rear set seats and there was not only more leg room for the forward facing one I could have the seat as far back as It would go in the most comfortable upright position and not compromise the space needed for the rear facing one. The head room feels greater and even though the aesthetics on the "V" aren't top of the line it beats my old cockpit feel every day of the week. The only thing I miss about my Saab is the engine and manual drive. Six speed, V6, turbocharged fully tuned and modified 377 hp @ 353 lbs/ft of AWD awesomeness and when driven like a sane man I could easily get 24 /28.
Noticed that the gear selector was now a smaller knob that before and instead of right in the middle of things its of to the left hand side a bit more, I will agree with Mark Finlay about the guages being brighter. The center console is deeper and the USB port and aux are not hidden within the console. They're neatly tucked away under the screen where the console meets the dash. For me it has less of a futuristic feel and more of a modern day car feel of that makes any sense at all. I truly wish I didn't just jump into this thing and go and did s lengthier side by side to help you out more.
