    Hi all,

I'd like an opinion on what would be the "best" purchase:

    2007 Prius 120k miles for $8700.
    2005 Prius 125k miles for $6900
    2004 Prius 165k miles for $5900

Interiors are all clean, with recall work and maintenance done at dealerships.

Regarding the 2005 and 2007, is the newer year and lower miles worth the extra cash? Would the 2004 be the best buy in terms of being the cheapest?

    Any input would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

A number of improvements were made in 2006 making in my opinion the 2007 the better buy. However you do not really give us enough information for a decision.
Are the models the same trim level (do they all have SKS, satnav etc) another thing to consider is do you live in a CARB state where the hybrid system will be guaranteed for 10 years or 150,000 miles or are you under the normal 8 year 100,000 mile guarantee.

    Welcome to Prius Chat!

I agree with John's above post. We really need more info and also your location does make a difference concerning hybrid warranty.

Good luck to you. Prius is a good and very economical car. With the age's you are considering, you need to factor in possible repairs down the line.

    Hope this helps you!

    Thanks for the help!

They all have smart key, but only the 2004 has navigation.

No, I currently do not live in a CARB state. Although I will be moving to CA soon. Perhaps I should delay my purchase until after the move?

Another ditto, although I would aim for a '08, or '09. It was the last of the Gen II series, and well built with the latest upgrades!
Hope you find what you are looking for.
    By the way, Welcome aboard!!

Im in the same boat, but im looking at 07 with 160k less options but new battery replaced vs 05 with 122k with all options . Im a little concern with miles on the 07, but leaning towards it due to new battery. Both about same price and one owner.

So for you I would go with 07 because not only newer, also lower miles.

The price difference between the '05 and '07 would buy a new HV battery IF you ever actually needed it. The guy at reinvolt said they have seen more 05-06 batteries fail than 04. He attributed possibly to increased production that year.
I think I would go with the 04 for nav and lower cost.

We don't have enough information about your needs to help you decide. But I can tell you if those 3 cars were available here in California, they would already be sold and we'd have nothing to discuss. Definitely buy prior to moving.

If it were my money, I'd probably choose the 05 by a hair. It is worth the extra for the 07 but I'm cheap. It's definitely worth the extra $ from the 04 to the 05 but that's because I can afford $6900 for a car. So it depends on the person but price wise, it's a pretty even match.

Just one thing to point out taking a car into a CARB state does not qualify it for a CARB status for the Guarantee. So although the cars in Cali may be more you are effectively buying an extended guarantee for emissions purposes if buying within those terms and millage.

I always go with the newer/lower mileage combo. Paid 12.6k for my '08 with 36k. IMO, a bargain because of the mileage. After 6mo, she has 62k and less than $500 in maintenance, including preventative. Bargain.
I'd keep looking. You can find a lower mileage one if you can stretch your budget. More economical in the long run, IMO.
