I just received the rear bumper protector (PT738-52120) for my new Prius C and was looking at the instructions and it says to to use 3M prep solvent 70 to prep the bumper. I cannot find this stuff anywhere locally. Is this necessary to do or can I just clean off the bumper with a lint free cloth and apply? If it is recommended to use the solvent is there another product that is the same that I can buy at the store? Thanks
that particular step isn't needed... it's a prep to make sure the bumper is absolutely clean and free from anything that can possibly affect the adhesive. wash the area thoroughly and you'll be fine.. microfiber, lint-free.. make sure there's no wax or anything.. etc..
I also ran into this problem. In many forums they recommend cleaning the area with ribbing alcohol...
All you're trying to do is remove wax, Armor All, etc so that the piece will stick. I usually just use alcohol. X
Thanks everyone. I was able to use a little Stoners Invisible Glass since it has alcohol and cleaned it up before applying the protector. Everything went very smooth.
I'd second rubbing alchohol. Get the 99% stuff; I think the 70% formulation might have a bit of oil. You really just want something that will take off grease/dirt. And definitely not take off paint. Oh, see it's a done deal, never mind...
I did mine the week I got my car and it was very easy and simple! The dealership wanted to charge me $50 to install a peel-n-stick bumper guard -.- all I did was just wipe it down real good and used a dry erase marker to make tiny dots of how it was going to be aligned and it turned out great! It was actually my first DIY project on this car
Does anyone know if it has to be a certain temperature to apply this? I am affraid its too cold right now in NY.. 25 degrees F.
