A Prius v parked next to my Hatchback yesterday and I couldn't help but notice that the owner had covered his car with plastic extrusion channel moldings. I can't imagine why anyone would do this to their car.

    Pretty unattractive IMO.

That looks like a door edge guard to me.

Whatever Pep Boys calls it. This guy managed to plaster it on his wheel house opening as well. Sweet!

I agree - looks like crap. It breaks up the flowing line of the car. What does it do for the wheel openings anyway? I can understand the doors, but at least use the same color as the car so it doesn't look so obvious.

I remember these in the 1970's and '80's.

They used to be made of stainless steel.

Water, dirt and salt would collect in the wells between the molding and the paint. Within a short time, the vibration from just driving down the road would ear away the paint touching these moldings, the bare steel would begin to rust.

Rust "bubbles" would start at the moldings and migrate throughout the body parts.

Even the vinyl moldings will work as traps for debris and abrasives on them and serve as rust starters.

    I'd stay away form them.

Needs side mouldings and a clear bra, too.

I believe Sierra Toyota in Lancaster does this. I bought my car from Poway and it had the stuff all over just like the pic. They told me they didn't know what it was but they didn't charge for it. I think mine matched the color a lot better. Removed them in favor of clear bra and mudflaps.

In the past when I washed cars in the house that area behind the wheel/tire got a lot of gunk spat up at it. They do help keep that area clean...

The trim above the wheel saved me twice from the aggressive drivers who parked too close and scratch the trim in stead of the body. The first time, I sanded and repaint but the second time I took it off and replaced. Now I always choose the parking spot wisely. Got them from Rakuten Japan at $88 a pair shipped.
As for the door edges, I have the 3M clear door edge protector installed..

Order the Adell made official door guards at your local dealer.

They are fantastic fit, and do not even show on the door per factory color matched.
