EV city mode modificaton

    Bonefish -- EV boost occurs above 62 mph when the ICE turns on and begins to propel the vehicle. The EV icon will disappear, however the rule around the EV area still remains. The battery will slowly tick away and your MPG will usually stay in the 100+ MPG range.

    62 is above ICE switch-on zone in the UK (we don't get the same EV speed as you, we top out at 54mph true, give or take).

    Given the above conditions, I should be getting this effect according to all I've read on here, but I simply don't, much to my chagrin!

    EV boost doesn't work on my EU plugin either so your not alone on that my battery just stay the same until it gets down to ev speed. Don't know if there's some kind of setting for that but don't seem like it.

    So in the EU model, when you get above the EV speed limit, it switches solely to the ICE?:confused:

    Yes, AFAIK - take tonight, EV for the first 5 miles and then an indicated 6 miles remaining when the ICE came on as I joined the Motorway and increased speed.
    I lost 0.7 mile of that in warm up of the ICE, then ran with 5.3 miles at a true 70mph, harvesting another 0.4 miles on the way before I went back to EV towards the end of my journey and started spending again.

    Any chance you are running in EV-City on the motorway? If so, try switching to EV. My understanding of the purpose of EV-City is to be pure EV in the city (aka slower speeds), so perhaps the ICE switch on point is lower and it maintains EV miles at high speeds to ensure there are some left when you get back into the city/slower speeds.

    This is based on my understanding that the three modes in the European version: EV, HV, and EV-City. I was trying to find the UK manual, but Toyota UK doesn't provide an electronic copy for whatever reason.

    EV-City is turned off at a certain speed around 50mph or something like that not sure on the exact speed have to look next time. Looked through the manual but can't find anything about EV-boost. What i find though from the manual:

    "Driving on the highway" "If it's far to the charging station we recommend you to drive in HV mode on the highway instead of EV mode and use EV after you have left the highway." If we would have had EV-boost then i guess they would not have mentioned this. Does not mention any where that you can blend the two other then in the winter when its cold if you want heat then it will blend but at slower speeds of course.

    I have never tried to drive without eco mode though but i guess ev boost should still work in eco mode?

    if it doesn't use ev miles on the highway in ev mode, why would they recommend switching to hv?

    You can drive up to 53 mph on ev according to the manual i do manage 58 though after that the engine comes on once its warm takes about 30 secs then it stops using any ev at all. So i guess they mean on a highway where the speed is less then that.

    Just wrote a email to Toyota Sweden if they knew anything about the difference why we don't have it in Europe let's hope for a good answer from them .

    You won't find EV-boost in the manual. It's a made up term by a PriusChat poster; I think it increases confusion by introducing a term that is non-Toyota canon. Anyhow, it's just running in EV mode above the ICE turn on point. Once the engine warms up, it reduces gasoline usage by supplementing drive power from the engine with drive power from the electric motor/battery.
    It sounds like you are in HV mode (if you do not see the EV Mode lamp indicator on, you are in HV mode). You can try switching to EV mode with HV/EV toggle for "EV-Boost". Perhaps EV-City switches to HV when the ICE turns on to preserve EV miles for later EV-City usage. I'm also curious about the top speed before the ICE turns on. Maybe if you were in EV Mode instead of EV-City Mode, the top speed would be 62mph before the ICE turns on?

    Again, I'm assuming that there's three modes: EV, HV, and EV-City.

    No it still says EV on the screen i rarely use the EV-city button any more learned how to drive it without accidentally starting the engine now :) :)

    Drove on the highway today just to see again don't take the highway normally i get to work and home on a street going along side the highway on ev instead. So that it doesn't have ev boost doesn't affect me but I'm curios why the difference.

    If i let the speed drop to 58 or lower on the highway the engine turns off and it will use ev again but as soon as you get over that speed it will use ICE only. We don't have the same EV top speed as US have would have been nice to go a little bit faster if we had the same i would have managed my highway speed where i live.

    Just to be clear...you are saying 58 miles per hour and not 58 kilometers per hour?
    (Since I assume your display reads in metric)

    Just to be clear, are you seeing:
    a) "EV" in inside a car icon on the Hybrid System Indicator on the screen (aka Multi-information display) or
    b) "EV Mode" inside a square which is a lamp indicator (not on the screen/Multi-information display)
    a doesn't mean you are in EV Mode; b does.

    For the avoidance of doubt this is an indicated 58mph for the switch from EV to HV, just as UK, which, on the chronically overrreading speedo is 53-4mph true.

    Beovox & I are in violent agreement on all aspects of EU-spec PiP behaviour so far!

    Just to enlighten those of us on this side of the pond, do speedometers in the UK read miles per hour or kilometers per hour, or is it switchable like here in the U.S.? From talking to my British colleagues, I gather that there is a real usage mish-mash in the UK between the traditional and International System of Units .

    Yeah I'm saying mph as the majority here use that but that's very true mine shows it in kmh :)
