Curious how many who purchased their v checked their deal against Trucar.com pricing. Here's how my car is configured & Trucar estimate. My deal was better than what Trucar had given. New 2013 Toyota Prius v Price Quote w/ MSRP and Invoice iPhone ?
I used truecar to get my deal. When I clicked your link, it pulled up pricing for SC, not OC, CA, so I don't know what your pricing was. My price came to $27,755 before TTL and dealer handling fee of $299. My local dealer wasn't a "truecar" dealer, but they matched the deal, which saved me a 100+ mile trip. I met my sales person when I helped my nephew get his new Corolla a month earlier, then went back for a test drive a couple weeks later. Rest of the deal was negotiated via phone/email before I went in to sign the paperwork. The process was easy and I felt like I was in control of the negotiation and buying on my terms. Truecar had the best pricing of all the car-buying services, including Costco.
In my case, Trucar pricing was: TruCar Price: $29,627 (7.22% discount from MSRP) Average Price Paid: $30,401 MSRP=$31,923 Invoice=$30,035 (should be the same anywhere) I paid: Price plus TTL: $28,107 Discount: $3825 from MSRP $31,923 Roughly 12% off MSRP Difference between what I paid & TruCar: $29,627-$28,107=$1520 savings over TruCar pricing. I guess I am in the "unusually low" part of the graph. iPhone ?
Another thing to factor is TruCar sponsors. If they are the automaker, then you can't help to wonder if their pricing is really in the best interest of the consumer. iPhone ?
My MSRP was $31,454 Price paid $27,755, plus TTL, or $3,699 off. It seems our deals were close. Truecar was the lowest price I could find, and I think I got a great deal and the dealer was still able to make some on it too so we both ended up happy. My dealer also extends the maintenance from 2 yrs/24k to 3 yrs/36k.
In areas where there are multiple dealers to work with, Truecar probably is a good starting point. There is only 1 dealer in my town and the next closest dealer is 100 miles away. Truecar was a tremendous help for me, although I didn't use their service to complete my purchase.
Don't get me wrong, you could do worse than paying the trucar price but after watching "Rob gruhl - how to buy a car and not get screwed" on YouTube, that 6 minute video saved me like 2500 bucks, lets call it 2k since even the average joe knows he shouldn't pay sticker.
Great video - Bob Gruhl. I can relate. I love the challenge of buying a car. Also agree TruCar is a starting point, but by no means the total picture. Dealers will flat out lie. They aren't in the business to loose money. Its just a matter of how much profit they make. iPhone ?
