Just wanted to confirm that my 2011 Prius II also has the HYQ14AAB fobs.

When you do an ECU reset in Techstream, do you need access to the TISonline to obtain the SEED ID? I have Techstream, but no access to TIS.

    Thanks.

Short answer "yes" - but there are two options. PM me & we'll discuss them.

we just experienced the same thing while needing a second remote. i have a neighbor who is a lexus tech( formerly a toyota tech for 11 yrs) who stated exactly as above. you have to re-program the whole deal. dealer will get an arm and a leg an maybe a first born, but can be done. we opted to buy a new remote rather than used for ease of getting it done rather than expense. the neighbor got the key at employee cost and programmed for nothing. good neighbor!

I know this is an old thread but I have been dealing with this confusing issue myself and I might have sorted it out.

I bought a used 2011 Prius 4 (I think) with solar roof. My only key fob, probably not original, has the AAB with the A/C button. Like everyone else, all the fobs I found for Prius have ACX in the back. Then I found a website ( KEYLESS ENTRY COMPONENTS for 2011 Toyota Prius ) that lists 2 part numbers for 2011 Prius, 89904-47150 for up to 5/11 and 89904-47420 for 5/11 and on. Since my car was manufactured in 5/11, I contacted them and they confirmed with Toyota that I would need the 47420. But without a pic, I had to make sure and found this web site
We are now searching for a compatible 2011 Toyota Prius keyless entry remote or accessory . The 47420 did show the A/C button but the description said " Trunk Lid". I called the tech person and he actually had the fob with him and confirmed that the text was wrong, and the number in back showed AAB. This company is supposed to be really good with tech support. They let you return as long as you don't open the wrap (you can program with the wrap on). I could buy both and return the one that doesn't work and buy the software to program myself. But for now, I let my locksmiths deal with it, he's ordering the key.

Update: Actually for the 89904-47420 with HYQ14AAB in the back, it comes with 2 choices: A/C or Trunk Lid button. You need to tell the vendor what you need. The first Locksmith didn't work out too well and I ordered myself one with the A/C button and the program went flawlessly in 2 mins with the local locksmith (Abbot Locksmith in Orange, CA who charges $52 for programming/key cut).

My apologies for resurrecting an old thread, but I am wondering if my Prius I bought used isn't a theft recovery, because I have a 2011 model three, but I only got one key with it. It is one with the SKS (I am wondering if it also has features I can't use with the current key, were the non-solar models also equipped with remote start/A/C?).

I have an FCC-ID that has not yet been mentioned in this thread: HYQ14AEM. Research tells me this belongs to a RAV4, but otherwise works with my Prius. I am interested in getting another key, but I might end up taking it to the stealership, because I'd like to find out exactly which fob I'm supposed to have, sounds like 14ACX, and program/cut a new master and spare. Unless I can find a local locksmith experienced with these vehicles.

Anyway, someone mentioned that the confusion regarding the FCC-IDs could be due to a manufacturer shortage of available parts due to the Tsunami/Fukushima incident around this time. Has anyone had any confirmation of this? Am I the only one that's stuck with a RAV4 key?

There are eBay listings with the HYQ14AEM designation for RAV4, Corolla, Land Cruiser, and Lexus. The Lexus keyfobs use a different case and mechanical key, but the same circuit board.

The Prius keyfob has black lock/unlock keys plus a red alarm key. The solar roof Prius adds an A/C key. No Prius has a trunk release key.

Salvage vehicles sold at auction sometimes come with zero keys. Doesn't seem to be a problem for most buyers, and I really doubt that the cars get taken to a dealership for a $1000 all-keys-lost repair. What I find amazing is that someone figured out that your Prius could use a 14AEM device.

I suggest searching for a locksmith who can program used keys for a Prius. One chain that has been mentioned several times is Pop-A-Lock. If you can find such a locksmith, then any used eBay 14AEM keyfob should work. If you can't locate anyone who can handle a used key, then you're stuck buying a new one from a dealership. You'll need a really competent parts guy to look up what is an unusual key for a Prius.

The programming procedure should be the same for all keyfob types. So even if you have to buy a key from a dealer, you could still program it yourself with a Mini VCI.

Let us know what the parts guy has to say about the proper keyfob for your Prius. It's got to be a special order item unless you just accept a RAV4/Corolla part.

Thanks, RobH. I mean, if I am not losing any functionality with my current key, then another 14AEM would do just fine. I suppose I should check to see if the key blade actually works on the car (I've yet to use it, as I have only had the car for three weeks).

Another thing I noticed about my fob is that it does not look like what other online sellers are listing as an HYQ14AEM, theirs looks more shaped (rounded, with an L-shaped key blade handle) and has four buttons (trunk, lock, unlock and panic), mine looks like the Prius non-solar: rectangular, all-black, three buttons (lock, unlock, and panic) and the black "D" shaped key blade handle (exactly like what comes up when I search HYQ14AAB). Only the FCC ID clearly says HYQ14AEM, Denso 14AEM. I think we have Pop-A-Lock here.

I know this is an old thread, but I have a question that no one talked about.
    I have a 2006 and a 2014 Prius Plug-n. I replaced a 2007 package 3 with the Plug-in.

I had one fob that operated both cars. SKS with the '07 and transponder only with the 06. Apparently you can program the car to see any transponder regardless of how many are already programmed. Not so with SKS. Anyway, I noticed no slot in my 2014 where I could plug-in the fob. Does that mean there's no transponder circuit and only uses SKS? Is there a transponder circuit in the HYQ14ACX? could it be compatible with the transponder circuit in my '06?

I know this is an old thread, but maybe someone can answer…
I have a 2011 Prius and one of the original keyfobs died (washing machine accident). So, I’m looking for an OEM ‘virgin’ replacement keyfob on eBay.

Like the OP, my keyfob’s FCC ID is HYQ14AAB - it is also a 3-button keyfob

Most keyfobs on eBay with FCC ID “AAB”, are 4-button, however there are a very few which I’ve found which are actually 3-button. However, in those few, their description says they use transmitter # 271451-3370 and my keyfob’s transmitter # is 271451-5290

Does the transmitter # have to match also (I’m thinking it does if they are making the point of including the transmitter # in the description) ???

or is the matching FCC ID the only thing needed?

    TIA

Were you ever able to figure this out? Does the board type actually matter, assuming I don't care about trunk or A/C buttons?

I'm also currently trying to figure out how to properly duplicate the sole keyfob for my 2011 Prius. Maddeningly, all the numbers printed/engraved on the outside of the fob have rubbed off completely.

Opening up the circuit board for the only currently working key, the circuit board bears part number 271451-3370.

On the previous page of this thread, RobB posted physical comparison photos showing the difference between FCC ID # HYQ14ACX vs FCC ID # HYQ14AAB. My fob's circuit board has two chips, not one - therefore if RobB is correct, I have an HYQ14AAB.

All of this is based on the assumption that I need P/N 89904-47420, which I've deduced from A) Previous post in this thread stating May 2011 and later manufacture dates need this one; B) my Prius has a 06/2011 manufacture date stamped inside the driver's door.

Really would like to know the answer to this too, as the FCC ID is totally obscured on the one working fob! I also just spoke with the nearest dealership, who refuse to confirm or deny anything I've pieced together thus far, and insist I would have to come in and show it to them (read: waste over an hour there while enduring the hard sell).

Clarifying the previous post a bit...

I have only one working mystery fob - the FCC ID has been completely rubbed off:

...But, the board looks like this:

Mine has two chips, not one - which, based on your comparison photo, suggests it's an AAB, and not an ACX. My transmitter/board has 271451-3370 printed on it. BUT, the AAB-ID transmitter shown in your photo has a different transmitter number than mine, 0140.

All of the used OEM ACX fobs I've seen online also have three lines of text above "DENSO" on the obverse; the AAB ones and mine (as far as I can make out) seem to have only two lines of text above "DENSO"...

Do you know what the board/transmitter number was for the HYQ14AAB Lexus key? I'm currently trying to figure out whether it's necessary for the board/transmitters to be exactly the same (assuming that the FCC IDs match).
