This isn't true. I don't have a PHEV and my battery gets warm, sometimes above 120 degrees. And, the HV battery fan modification is a good idea for ANY Prius owner when operating in temperatures greater than 85 degrees.

When you turn the Prius off with a high SOC or hot temps, the battery temp will rise. Having something to cool the battery after the car is off will definitely extend the life of the battery. Citations? Nope. I don't have any. It just makes sense that a cooler battery will last longer.

Anytime your battery exceeds 104 degrees, your CCL starts going down. This means you will use more gas, use more meat on your brake pads and you will recoup less energy during braking.

Thanks for that. I see this is a pretty old thread, but I just tried that xgauge command and it worked, but would start up for a couple of seconds, then turn off, then start up again, and so forth.

Is there anyway to modify the command so that it would be a continuous run?

Under normal operation the fan runs steadily but at a speed too low to cool the battery.

    Thanks

    Hi Pedaler,

You can try the command by lopezjm2001:

Thanks Vincent. Sorry it took a while to get back to this. I tried the different code, with the same results as before (intermittent fan).

I hate to start a new thread...but does anyone know the procedure to do the same using the Torque app?

an option of continues run at any level 1-6 would be nice

Yes here are the hv blower control codes for gen 2 prius.
Codes tested on torque app 1.8.22 should be good for all versions.

"Set Battery Cooling Fan Speed 1","SFS1","30810001","A","0","0","No reply req'd","7E3"
"Set Battery Cooling Fan Speed 2","SFS2","30810002","A","0","0","No reply req'd","7E3"
"Set Battery Cooling Fan Speed 3","SFS3","30810003","A","0","0","No reply req'd","7E3"
"Set Battery Cooling Fan Speed 4","SFS4","30810004","A","0","0","No reply req'd","7E3"
"Set Battery Cooling Fan Speed 5","SFS5","30810005","A","0","0","No reply req'd","7E3"
"Set Battery Cooling Fan Speed 6 (max.)","SFS6","30810006","A","0","0","No reply req'd","7E3"

Note prius hv cooling fan is variable speed.
Hv cooling fan gets one extra volt of electricity per 10 mph road speed increase (approximate).
Setting cooling fan speed via scanguage or torque app puts a fixed non-variable voltage on the blower motor.

A scan/torq setting of 3 provides excellant battery cooling up to a road speed of approximately 45 mph.
This setting of 3 inhibbits the fan speed at road speeds above 45mph.
Better said normal prius fan cooling control (variable speed) runs blower faster at 45mph than the scan/torq setting of 3.

But normal prius fan control tries to run hv blower (stealth mode unheard by driver) just below road noise and undetectable.

Thus batteries get cooled best at hiway speeds under normal prius variable blower control.
Or cooled very well with scan/torq setting 4 (fixed voltage) up to road speeds around 60 mph.

Hope I explained this well enough . I will try and dedicate thread on prius fan EXPLAINED.

For older scanguage fan control is
Txd 07e33081000n substitute 1 through 6 for different speeds
    Rxf 057006810000
    Rxd 1901
    Mth 000100010000
    Nam sfs

For newer scanguage ver 4.0+ use Rxf 02eb24700581

I find entering several fan control commands works well.
    Example txd 07e330810003
    Nam sf3 fan speed 3

    Your next scanguage command
    Example2 txd 07e330810004
    Nam sf4 fan speed 4

This makes it easy to change fan speeds as speed 3 is not enough sometimes.
Then sometimes speed 4 is to much.

I like to deselect speed setting before shutting down prius.
This lets the prius select the much slower blower speed.
And will make the blower relay contacts/switch last longer.

I've forgotten to do this many times.

Could toyota have chosen this slowest blower speed in attisapation of power down to make blower relay last longer sacraficing battery life?

which fields do these values go in? first is start command? what about the rest? using torque
