My new-to-me 2009 Prius is replacing a 2001 Camry. Actually, the Camry will be passed along to my husband, who will pass along his 1997 Camry to our son. The 2001 Camry has about 135K miles on it, and the 1997 is inching toward 200K.
Our new to us 2004 Prius replaced our 1995 used Camry sedan which was totaled by a 21 y.o who ran into us last August. We were kind of upset that the damage was relatively cosmetic and the car still was able to run, but the cost to repair was more than it was worth. But now with the Prius, we estimate that we save $50 a month in gas over the Camry, we should have gotten a Prius much sooner!
Mine replaces a 2005 Subaru legacy wagon 2.5 and a 2003 Lexus IS300 3.0 straight. Oh how I miss that Lexus so badly! Think my next car will have to be a Lexus GS450h... I'm hurting now :-(
450h ?? Don't do it! Hold out for THIS bad boy ... the GS 300h ... with pretty much the same mpg as the prius, & it should be available in Derbyshire shortly: Lexus GS 300h: Shanghai motor show 2013 | Autocar
That looks good but as a machine the 450h is astonishing - 340bhp, 0-60 in 5.7 secs, almost 100% torque from standstill....
1990 Honda Prelude with only 160k on it... Just too much money poured into maintenance over the years. She has a five speed, 18" rims, low pro tires, full 4-wheel disc brakes (converted from the AWS model), full intake, header (DC), exhaust, and lowered. The wife loves this car but final agreed to get rid of her for a bigger, more reasonable car (Prius! . We are in the process of cleaning her up and posting her for sale on Craigslist :/
I had IS300 before. Lovely car. Everything about it is fantastic. Mine was heavily modified and I love every bit of it except that darn bad gas mileage and slowness. Was planned to swap with Supra engine but couldn't afford. Still miss that car. Hopefully I can get the GS300h or something in the future.
2007 Honda Civic Hybrid after I slid off the road and a woman crashed into me. About a 5 mpg difference or so between the cars.
2000 Lexus ES300. 224,000 miles. It was a nice ride until I did a 270° spin on the interstate in a snowstorm. Now it's too expensive to fix. Going from 25 mph (at best) to over 40! LG-MS840 ? 2
97' nissan 240sx. Got only 30 mpg... decided to get a Prius to dd and the forty as my weekend warrior. Galaxy Nexus ? 2
Replaces a 2001 Pontiac Aztek, which I would only suggest to my biggest enemies. It was the worst car I have EVER owned.
I traded in my Brilliant Black 1998 Mazda MX-3 1.6i Coupe for a Barcelona Red 2008 Toyota Prius "T-Spirit" with literally all the options except SKS. My affair with the MX-3 lasted 8.5 years and while I did have fun in what was a compact but feisty little 2+2 coupe, the continuously surging cost of fuel in the UK (I ran it exclusively on Shell V-Power Nitro+) and the grossly unfair "licence to print money" insurance costs made running the "USS Defiant" rather very uneconomical. Getting about 230 miles out of 40 litres of fuel didn't help. Then I got made redundant! To be fair, the MX-3 was very reliable no matter the weather. I got a new job with a 30 mile round trip across London per day and after braving London's Underground Train Service for 2 weeks purchased "Barcelona Fantasy" (a.k.a. The Spaceship) on 29/06/2013. Despite dreadful London go stop traffic jams, 30 litres of fuel gave me 353 miles - and that was with the A/C on in the afternoons. I love my new retro Spaceship, especially as I'd been lurking on here for about 6 months studying it carefully. I will NEVER own an ordinary car again. Ever. Impressed, I am.
