Everyone: I came across this today: Auto Guide has recently made a top ten cheapest 40 mpg car list, according to which the 2013 Toyota Prius c claims the second place, costing just $300 more than the number one cheapest high mpg Honda Insight that has a price tag of $19,390. The rest of the list still has Toyota written all over, as the third place was taken by the 2013 Toyota Prius ($24,995), 7th place was occupied by the Toyota Camry ($26,935), the Toyota Prius v ($27,445) ended on 8th and there is even a Lexus CT 200h ($32,945) in 10th place.
...and that $300 nets you a lot more MPG. My uncle owns a couple of the old Insights and it's a great car, but I just don't get the new 4 door version and its, relatively speaking, suboptimal gas mileage. They need to make a list of 50 MPG cars that cost under $20k...
Yeah, agreed on 50 list. I think they started with 40 because it's still an anomaly in the land of car making. 40 is the new 30.
We can toss the Ford C-Max from the list (at number 6) and move everyone below up one. By now, everyone knows the C-Max won't get 40mpg.
Old or new Insight? Ha ha 40mpg, more like what's the cheapest 50+ mpg car out there? Yeah...party time!
Current fuelly average is 39.2: Ford C-Max MPG Reports | Fuelly I'd guess that would get up to 40 by mid-fall.
