Purchased my 2013 Four yesterday. Picking it up tomorrow. I need to take the time to thank all of the people who have on posted. This place contains a wealth of knowledge. I'll be sure to share my experience with the car as well.
You are gonna love your car! I was talking with a supervisor last week that said her truck was getting 15mpg. I then told her I took a trip the day before and got 59mpg. The room turned silent except for the thud of her jaw hitting the floor and the ensuing laughter from my co-workers.
Loving it thus far - honeymoon period. Kind of surprised how quickly the hybrid battery is running down. I drove 50 + miles today and couldn't use EV mode for more than a few minutes when I came home and ran errands. Break in period?
EV mode isn't meant for long periods of use. Actually I wonder if there's any real purpose for it. I just prefer not to use it bc any mpg gains I get from it isn't significant. There's really no break in period for the car. Pretty much how it drives now is how it'll drive @ 100k miles. The only thing that would break in is your driving techniques.
I'm with you with the driving techniques. This is going to take some practice. I was suprised that I never seemed to get the hybrid battery fully charged during my trip. I was trying to use the EV for less than one mile after a 50+ mile trip home from picking the car up from the dealer. I was surpised that I got an message telling me that I didn't have enough of a charge.
Trying to use the EV mode is futile most of the time. It'll say it doesn't have enough charge when there is or say speed is too high when it isn't. I feel it's more a gimmick than anything.
OK, took time to learn the acronyms and now understand SOC enough to answer my own question. Just leaving breadcrumbs for the next newbie.
I just purchased a prius c three and I love it! I had a tundra and traded it in. Gas is no longer an issue!!!!!
