My prius "check engine" light has been lit about a month and I thought I was going to the dealership and have them check it and I just didn't make it yet. Drives fine with no performance issues- 165K Today my wife says she comes home and the headlights are on with the parked prius- setting in sun at 2 pm in NE Ohio. She reaches in and turns the lights off. I drive 3 miles at 4 pm and the Hybrid Warning Light comes on. I slowly drive back home and now it's not coming on anymore. It would be no problem to take it to a dealer (or someone), but it is 6 pm and I'm out of town tommorrow. I could perhaps take it to the dealership and get a lift to the airport; but I don't have a ride when I get back at 9pm days later. What are the chances this thing will at least make it to the airport and back? If I have autozone or my neighbor run some codes, can anyone give any advice? .
do you see the hv battery led going really high filling up completely (above normal) and also going real low (below normal)?
ok, that's usually a sign that you have a bad hv battery if you don't have a scan tool to plug in. you can always go to autozone and have them hook up a scan tool for free so you can get the codes.
pretty sure I need a catalytic converter, it appears to rattle quite a bit now that I think about it. Not sure how this relates to the warning lite that has now went away.
I am in your area and would be more than happy to help you out. The code p0171 most likely comes from a dirty MAF sensor.. Send me a message if you need help...
Thanks Yotator, will do. This car has been taken care of to date- hope to make it last forever, or at least avoid spending more than its worth!
You are welcome,I hear you about spending more than its worth. I do not usually agree with the toyota dealer ship prices/diagnosis. I am not trying to be devisive, but to many times they come up with an outragious amount that it will cost to get the prius fixed..
Well, that was last year. That code never really went away- but we did replace the throttle position sensor and the battery this month and all codes are gone!
