I've been thinking about these two fixes, yours with the rags and Toyota's with the new fender clip. Is it possible you have done the same thing they do. The rags you put in the "rabbit holes" may have put some pressure on the inner fender and stopped it from moving?

I went to the dealer this morning to see if they would cover the cost of fixing my car under the TSB, I don't think they will. The Service manager is on vacation and no one else knows the answer so I'll find out next week. I bought my car in the summer of 2009 so it's way over 36K miles, I bet most of the 2010s are. This will turn out to be like my engine undercover they refused to pay for.

If I'm wrong I'll be pleasantly surprised. If not I will try more rags and if that fails I may pay for it myself. It will cost about 3 hours of labor per side.

3hr is warranty time. Customer pay is probably in the 4-5 hr range.

It doesn't appear to be that bad of a job. I would just spend a weekend doing it yourself imo. Toughest part is probably the window.

Good idea, I'll probably try that. If I get in trouble with the window I can always go to the auto glass place and let them put it back in for me.

Also, remember that this is a body repair. If all else fails, call various body shops. Their labor rates are generally 60% of dealers anyway.

OK, it appears I have a similar rattle on the same side but it's the driver's side. Would this be the same noise you're getting? It starts at 0:08 mark and I'm deliberately inducing the rattle with the engine in a moderate labour.

I can't tell from your video as there's too much background noise. Go to post #26 on page 2 here and play that video. If it's the same noise you are hearing, it's the same problem.

I still think my solution is the easiest, fastest and cheapest way to solve it. You do have to pack the rags in the frame channels tightly though to stop the buzzing.

Anyone have the TSB in PDF. I have the rattle/ buzzling noise. They said they could not duplicated the noise. My 3 year warranty will expire on 8/22.
What can I do to force them to perform the TSB?

    Help

If I recall, you can duplicate the noise by gradually accelerating so the HSI indicator is at 3/4 the way up, or half way into the more intense blue area. That's when the noise is most apparent. Once in that range, you should be able to throttle up and down a bit and repeat the buzzing. Sorry - I don't have the TSB, but do a search here on defective right front fender clips and you might find it.

Hello all... I have recently noticed a similar rattling/vibrating sound coming from the general direction of the front passenger tire, but I can't point to any specific spot. I do know that it sounds very similar to what has previous been posted in this thread in the form of YouTube videos. I checked in with my contact where I purchased my '11 Prius because I trust his opinions and have bought two vehicles from him. I explained that I have an appointment set up this Wednesday evening to have Toyota technicians check out the sound. I got a reply from him this afternoon, and he said, "yeah tat is a warning sound regulated by your government to alert pedestrians due to the lack of noise emitted by the Prius at low speeds." Since I had been unfamiliar with this (and it was new info to me), I asked if this was new in the 3rd Gen models. He said that it was.

My question...is it worth driving the 20 miles to Toyota to have this investigated? I still have some creeking sounds coming from my center console and near the gear shift ... and I know that people here say those creeks are a common problem. I just am torn whether or not I should keep my appointment for Wednesday. Thoughts from the community?

soloflyt, welcome to PC :). I can tell you from what I've read here that the TSB you refer to requires the dealer to remove the right front fender and the small triangular glass window to fix the defective clip. Sorry - I don't know what the TSB number is either, but my "stuffed rags" method worked on my car and it is still quiet to this day.

I checked with my dealer to see if they would fix mine under the TSB, they would not because the car had over 36K miles on it. The TSB number is T-SB-0064-12 issued on 4/16/12. This number and date are also listed in the TSB thread by Critic. Unfortunately I do not have a copy of the TSB and I can't find it with a Google search. Have you looked on the Toyota Owner's web site?

I ended up using Phoenixgreg's method which worked pretty well. I still have a slight buzz at certain RPM in cooler weather but I just live with that.

The fender should be easy but i have no clue how to remove the small glass. Dont want it to leak or break :)

Guy guys, was able to get the TSB for the fender rattle. Was able to remedy mine with buffering out the location with a foam. But im thinking of doing the tsb the right way and am just waiting for the clips and the windshield weld(sealant). I also researched and found out regarding primer G and M. I am trying to post the TSB but its 11mb and it won't post :\ Let me know if you need more info but I think I got this issue resolved on my end.

sent, help me send it to the guys asking for it in case I miss it as well. thanks. would be great if we can upload it to this site.. its very useful and helps isolate the problem. You can actually press on the upper fender to stop the rattle, if it stops this tsb will apply, if it doesn't then this wont fix it. you need two clips thats also hard to find. I had to order mine and its due to come in tomorrow. there's only one dealer in socal that has it and its far :\
