Sorry to start a new thread but I have GREAT news!
I have manufactured a key that can be programmed by the buyer. No need to ship me your key for copying and cutting. Its the buyers responsibility to get the key cut.

Is that just a stock Toyota key? or have you modified it?

The key is just a generic Toyota key. I inserted a chip that is coded to the same encryption as the 04-09 Prius

Is it hard to get the key cut? Or is this something anyone like walmart can do?

I know Lowes and Home depot now have a policy about customers bringing in their own keys. They don't allow it... Depends on who you talk to at the key area.

A locksmith can cut it or a smaller hardware store like Ace. I've seen many places do it for free. Local hardware store to my house charges $2 bucks to do.

It's just a regular key and Walmart should be able to do it.

Just to confirm: is this $37 key different from the toyota 4c or 4d type keys that are sold in eBay for $8-9 shipped? Those keys will not work and you made special modification to the key for it to work, correct?

    Thanks

The Prius does not use 4c or 4d that I know of. I have several 4c and all the different versions of the 4d. I will run all of them and see if any will be accepted to the car.

I have the encryption copied from a black Toyota logo smart key. I then transferred it onto a special NON Toyota chip. The chip then tells the car I'm inserting a black logo Prius key.

Thank you ovni. I look forward to your findings. IIRC, 2001-2003 prius uses 4c. I dont know about 2004+. Also, your eBay listing does not mention anything about programming at home. It says to ship the keys to you. Should I write a note to you that I don't want to send my key to you in the PayPal page. Thanks

That's interesting. Maybe because of Ipad edition???Here is what I see when I click the eBay link on the first post:

I will need you to send me one of the Smart keys that's programmed to your car. I will copy the emergency key and electronic signal onto a regular transponder key. I will ship back your key and new transponder key out the same day or the next via First Class with Tracking.

Went to the Prius and tried a 4c chip and two different versions of the 4D chips. The three chips did NOT work. Light kept flashing...

Something unique in the smart key encryption the car is looking for when adding the keys.

I appreciate the clarification and your effort. I will order a key from you within a few days.

Hi ovni. Do you know if this will work in Prius localized models outside US. For example the right hand drive UK or Australian models?

Also, just a couple of questions to clarify.

    - This will work with my non-sks (black logo key-fob) system right?

    - With this key you open the door using the regular key, is that right?

In the US, the 04-09 use the same immobilizer chip inside the black logo non sks system and the silver logo smart key system. The key is the same blade as your emergency key here in the US. You just take it somewhere to get it cut.
I've seen Toyota do little design/hardware changes in the same years throughout the world. Who knows what immobilizer chip they are using in the UK. Most likely the same chip. The metal blade is model TOY-43

I listened to the video on your eBay posting "starting the car". At 0:32 you remove the key , place it in the cup holder and said something I could not understand. What did you say there? Also does this mean you start the car w the backwards key insertion, then remove the key to drive it? Can the key be left in the ignition to drive? I have a 2004 Prius and think I would like to get this key.

Hi Susan. My understanding is this. Because this key does not fit snugly into the slot, then you have to hold it in there while you start the Prius. Presumably it would rattle around and fall out if you didn't remove it after starting.

BTW. I don't hear any dialog on the video from 0.32 to 0.49, just the radio which starts up after the car starts at 0.32.

You just hold the key in the slot while you press the POWER button. Remove the key after that. The car will remain running until you press the POWER button again to turn it off. The slot door latches in the key inserted position while the car is turned ON. After turning the car OFF, release the slot door by pressing it with your finger.
