He's only been on to sell a car 4 years ago. Now he's started a thread and not replying. While not the worst trolling, still troll-worthy in my book.

I am having the exact same problem. Same squeaking started randomly but seemed like only when raining so I thought something needed greased. No warning lights. I know front brakes are needing replacement soon. But today a handful of warning lights came on and we had no braking power. Car is out of brake fluid. But it was just at shop 3 weeks ago for an oil change so fluids should have been topped off. Did you get car repaired? What was the verdict???? I have a bad feeling this is going to be an expensive fix.

The actual master cyclinder is pretty cheap at less than $70. If it is a seal problem then it shouldn't be an expensive fix. Here is the recall notice for other Toyota and Lexus vehicles around 2010. Toyota | Brake Master Cylinder Recall

Update: At first the service adviser said the master cylinder / booster is ok, asked for 1 hour labor to bleed the air out of the system and 4 hours labor to troubleshoot an electrical issue. I refused, called back and asked for the service manager. I sent him the two videos and a couple of hours later he called me back and said it was the master cylinder / booster and gave me a quote of around $2800.
After two days of getting the run around from Toyota Corporate, I finally got hold of the service manager at the dealer who told me Toyota is refusing to assist in any way.
I called the Corporate office again, this time I got hold of a different representative who was more willing to help but he informed me the next day that the decision by the regional supervisor is final.

Shame on Toyota for not standing behind their product when it comes to major safety failures!

I would stop driving the car and have it checked out. Sounds like you may have the same failure as I did.
Just ordered Brake Booster / Master Cylinder part number 4705047140 (updated part number based on my VIN) and seal 4478502060 for $1750 shipped from toyotapartsoverstock.com which is a Toyota dealer in Florida.

Yes, had a '68 5.0 Mustang with no power assisted drum brakes all around.
Dealer told me that there was air in the system so it sounds like what happened is more than just the power assist failing. With air in the system my brakes became practically inoperable, despite pressure applied.
    I have reported the incident.

Just had front And rear brakes replaced. They cleared codes and said car is fine. When I picked it up, the pedal was still squeaking and felt soft. The next time I turned it on, all warning lights were on and have to pump brakes again. Drove it back to Toyota of Boardman Ohio and they said maybe they rushed and didn't do a good job bleeding brakes. I am super annoyed. I still think it is master cylinder failure. Have you all reported the failures to the NHTSA??I have 144,000 miles on my 2010 so I doubt Toyota will be very helpful. If this happened at 43,000 or 65,000 I'd be even more angry than I am now. It's crazy to have such a pricy problem on a 3-year-old car!

Weird, the HSTSA website is down.

Edit: it works now. There are over 1700 complaints registered for 2010 Prius, most for brakes. To compare, my other 2 cars I own (that are much more popular than Prius) average 300-400 complaints total.

Um... Does anyone know that with ABS you're not supposed to pump the pedal?

Does anyone know that brakes are nor supposed to fail (even if one pumps ABS brakes)?

Wow... wee bit snippy? I'm just saying. Some people coming from a non-ABS car going to a car with ABS may not know not to pump their brakes. ESCUSE ME for trying to be a little bit helpful here.

Yeah, the Master cyl is outrageously expensive on these cars - about $2k. One more reason to keep the brake fluid flushed on a regular basis.

No problems so far with mine, but I have changed the brake fluid twice in 65k.

Wait... did you say 144,000 miles in 3 years? Holy freeholio! 48,000 miles a year is like crazy unbelievable. If I had that many miles on a car in 3 years I wouldn't even bat an eyelash at having to replace something. I've owned a lot of cars above 100K and I can say this about all of them, something is going to break regardless of how well you maintain it. It's the cars that have excessive issues below 100K you have to watch out for. (Like FORD!)

I would check the dates that most of those complaints were filed. I bet they were filed in rapid succession following the big media event surrounding UIA.

Did you actually go to the website? The most recent ones are displayed first. I do agree, most are dealing with "unintended acceleration" while braking BS, but a number of them is about the complete brake failure with faulty master cylinder. It's my understanding that if master cylinder brakes, the only think that will work will be emergency brake. This is serious.
