As the title states, we are joining the Prius family. My wife is really excited to get a new car as her previous Acura TL Type-S was getting long in the tooth. Just joined this forum so I look forward to learning about, and learning tips/tricks about the new purchase. Consider this just a thank you in advance for those experienced folks willing to share their experiences. I now am going to search about steps to take to improve the sound quality of the stereo.
Congrats on the new Prius. When I got my first Prius in 2006 I traded in a 2003 Acura TL Type-S for it.
HAHA! Yeah, can't stand lazy people unwilling to search the forum and instead ask a question that has been asked time and time and time again....
Congrats and welcome! So this for the wife or you? Don't forget to have dealer program to turn reverse beep off before delivery... that is a big annoyance.
We chose Blizzard White and the car is for my wife. We had an Acura TL-S (2003) but it was long in the tooth. She wanted something smaller and more fuel efficient for her commute from Milpitas to Livermore (~25 miles each way). So far she loves it. I'm going to leave all of the beeps / whistles / horns in place I want to give our Prius the best possible chance of making it 10-12 years. I enjoy driving it too - when she lets me. I have a 2012 Odyssey Minivan daily driver and a 2003 BMW M3 pleasure car, along with a D-SportsRacer that I race with SCCA every so often (pic on the left).
So far we are seeing about 43mpg on her commute - it really struggles on the Sunol Grade. But, it is still markedly better than her previous 23mpg average. I've washed the car twice in 4 days. I think I'm sick in the head.
That's about my average recently on my Persona. I noticed I get closer to 50-55 mpgs when on the freeway. =]
Sunol grade and the other way from Andrade are awfully steep. Going westbound, I just keep it under 60 MPH. 43 on the gage?? Seems a bit low even on a new car. Maybe it has to do with all the hills between Milpitas and Livermore? I just finished a tank: 470 miles, 9.13 gal to refill. Typical 51 actual for daily driving. Would have been 48 ish in Winter. The 17's would pull about 49 mpg under same circumstances now.
Thanks for the feedback. I don't think I can convince her to keep it less than 65mph , but I think it will just take her some time to learn how to drive the most efficiently. When I first got my Odyssey I was getting low 20's but now I'm regularly at 24mpg or above on my commute. She let me drive the Prius to work today (Milpitas to South San Jose) and I'm @ 47.5mpg....and I was not driving for mileage rather was at ~70-75mph most of the way....so I'm pretty happy.
