Hello, Going to be doing my bit for Greece in a few weeks and am going to hire a car whilst over there. One International hire company offers a Prius option which looks like the 3rd Gen. I have asked the hire Company whether it has a reversing camera and they say it does not. I thought that was standard on the 3rd Gen. Does anyone know what the spec is in Greece? They have also suggested that GPS is not available on the Island we are heading to yet they offer it as an extra (for a car that has already got GPS that seems odd)
I believe the Greek version is the same as Israel - No reversing camera as standard at least not in 2010 and I believe not in newer models either
What Greek island are you going to? I'm jealous. (My favorites from over 30 years ago are Santorini (Thira) and Delos, which IIRC is now uninhabited except by the keepers of the wonderful ruins there, so you go only for day trips.) Was in a Gen III Prius taxi in Paris in March, and did not notice a backup camera at work. Of course I could have missed something. If backup cameras and GPS are really important to you, you might need to shop around. Is there any reason that a touristic place like a Greek isle would not have been roadmapped for GPS?
Let's see if i can help... Reversing camera was only standard on the luxury edition of Prius III, that also has the solar sunroof, here in Greece. If i remember correctly the 2012+ models (i.e. facelift) had it as standard but again not on the basic model which is mostly, if not only, used as a rental/leasing car. You can ask if the car has rear parking sensors (widely used in Europe). I do not think you are going to have any problems parking the car, unless you are staying in Athens. Now, as far as the GPS is concerned, did they tell you that the car is equipped with a GPS system? Is that a portable GPS unit or the OEM build-in unit? My GPS has almost full coverage of Greece. What island are you visiting so that i can check? Nikos
Going to Zakynthos - been many times before and drive over there only this time decided to have a car for the duration so need something capable of taking the suitcases, and now find it difficult to get used to a manual box - I am no longer permitted to drive my other half's Yaris as I do forget about the need to use the clutch! Because of the limited rear view I do not think I could do without a reversing camera on a Prius. Indeed they should be standard safety equipment on any car.
Looked on Toyota Greece website last night and ran the text through a translator and unless the translation is wrong the bottom line on the Base model Kάμερα οπίσθιας προβολής στην οθόνη αφής reads"camera rear projection touch screen" I have a Gen II T Spirit in the UK which has a reversing camera and I do find I need it as the spoiler gets in the way as does the sloping rear (I am tall so cannot see a lot out of the back window).
The translation is correct but this only applies to the facelift Prius, even though on the site the pictures show the first generation Mk3 Prius...As i told you, most rent-lease cars are the base model and first generation mk3's so i do not think you will get any with rear view camera. You might be lucky and get one with rear parking sensors. My GPS has coverage of Zakynthos but i do not know if it has full coverage. Driving in Zakynthos is not going to be a problem in my opinion... Nikos.
