I parked my car normally and kept right distance to other cars. But one of my side mirror was destroyed by someone. And several days later, the broken side mirror was damaged worse. It looks like that someone hit it again. Do American hate Prius so much? How can I find out who did it?
Sorry to hear you are having bad luck. It could be coincidence or it could be that someone is mad at you and taking out their frustrations on your Prius. If you can, move your Prius to another location for parking purposes. If you can get it somewhere where a camera is recording you could possibly review the footage if damage reoccurs at a later time. I hope you have better luck in the future!
On our narrowest streets in Chicago, most people fold their mirrors in when they park. I lost a mirror once on my Nissan Altima. They didn't hate that car, just a lousy bastard driver (probably a giant SUV in the city).
I had my convertible top slashed in Santa Barbara...they didn't even take anything just cut it from the windshield to the back glass...looked to be just an act of vandalism since it didnt get through the inner layer into the car. I did have someone key my Prius at the Costco in Tempe, AZ though last year.
I think the only attitude towards a Prius seems to be on the highway and not when parking. I swear, too many people are okay being passed, but then realize that a Prius is passing their gas guzzler and it isn't acceptable anymore and they must find that accelerator all of a sudden. By far, my biggest pet peeve. I think it is with all hybrids though. When my oil pan had that issue, I had to drive my other half's Escape Hybrid and the same thing would happen. I swear I am not that conservative of a driver...
Are you not an American? I'm confused. If Americans hate Prii, none of us would drive them, right? Maybe you meant some Americans hate Prii. Just like some Americans hate gas guzzling SUV's. One of the best things about America is our right to choose. I've owned a lot of different cars, but I wouldn't judge you based on what you drive. Sure, I love my prius but it's not the right car for everyone. We all make choices and have to live with them. Damaging someone else's property is illegal and if it is "someone" damaging your car I hope you or the police find them. I hope it's just a bad parking spot.
OP - If the damage was intentional it does not make sense that the same mirror would be vandalized - why go to the risk and trouble to break something that is already broken - if they just had to damage the car they would have pulled off the other mirror, a windshield wiper or some other bit. That being said take a look at where you were parked, especially if it was the same location both times that the damage happened. If it looks like a spot where the damage was done to a narrow street, truck loading area, etc you might want to park someplace else as it might be just a matter of time before the damage is more extensive.
