Top 20 - MPG Record Holders

Techniques: I try to keep my acceleration in the ECO range at all times, from about the right edge of the ECO symbol above (not illuminated) to just before the PWR zone, combined with P&G and terrain awareness. No A/C nor heat.
Time of year: September
I ran on the blinking low-fuel warning light about 10 miles. Needed 9.67 gallons to fill up.
Tire setup: Bridgestone Ecopia 44 front, 42 rear

 

The competition is heating up a bit!
I will look into improving my score!

 

I can't believe I only lasted a day or two.

Can't I stay on because of my amazing avg mph?

Thank you for the note and adding me to the list.

As engine warmup (mandatory for starting in the morning) lowers mpg, I saw like below a couple of times in warm daytime when engine warmup is unnecessary. I believe you see >95 mpg in yours.




Below I calculated how much of gas is actually consumed for warmup. My daily commute 17 miles with 66 mpg consumes 0.26 gallons. When I record mpg for my morning commute as a whole, and for that excluding the warmup, at the same time, the latter is 5-10 mpg higher than the former. It estimates 4-5 ounces consumed for the warmup (when temperature is 50-65 degF) that is 12-15% of total gas I consume per 17 miles commute; quite substantial. Will it exceed 50% in winter below 20degF?

Wasting 1 ounce (maybe one stepping gas pedal is sufficient?) further drops 2 mpg in calculation. Now I quantitatively know how much gas will be wasted per sudden acceleration.

Prius tells us things that are impossible to learn from other vehicles, which changed my mind.

 

I don't think anything under 70.0 mpg is safe for the top 20.
For the best tank ever, tank up in Denver and then do a downhill 500 mile ride to Omaha with the Jet-stream at your back.
It would be dangerous as you'd want to keep the mph below 60. Just find a nice RV or slow semi to trail.
That would be an experience.

I wish you to open a new thread (60mpg/60mph Club?) to discuss how to make best mpg drive in highway. It is a common and big problem for all Prius user; we will want to learn how to make it in detail.

 

Oh, I got it- you must not take a morning coffee then but may need caffein....it's tough anyway

 

I've done that once in a minivan. Got about 28 mpg going 75-80 mph (loaded with passengers and luggage).

 

Not quite, there's a lot of technique involved...mostly finding one of those new trailers with side skirts and sitting behind it for at least 350 of the 500 miles

 

That's a huge patience... What if I have neither big bladder nor trailer? What else can we do?

 

Don't go 60mph.....

I was behind a truck for probably 200 miles straight on this trip. I have days where I drive 400-500 miles a day on a regular basis...I try not to drink so much those days.

 

I feel kinda petty but whatever, it counts. Bump me back up until I can make a good run at 65+ . PS ya I've been lurking lately.[/URL]
