Cleveland police dispatch: Missing teens Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus found alive I hope the women and their children get the help they will need to return to society.
They're going to need a lot of help. What a terrible thing to have to go through. Especially for the one whose mother died while she was held captive.
Is it true to say that, 'It takes a village to raise a child?' Both this case and the Boston marathon bombing, have something in common. In both cases the alleged perpetrators operated within their respective societies, yet whatever subtle behavior/hints that they gave went unnoticed or unreported by folks they had contact with. The common thing(s) lies/lie at the intersection of the answers to a few questions: * What is the role that all citizens play in maintaining public safety? * What involvement do we expect/assume from our neighbors if not in the direct raising of children, than by way of looking out for strange or suspicious activity in our neighborhood? * How much of our individual roles is properly surrendered to our police? * Where is the boundary line between doggedly professional police work and truely intrusive or repressive police presence and activities? Is it commonly agreed what is the proper role of the people of the villiage... and the police of the village?
Hats off to Charles Ramsey and immediate Police response. Charles had to convince the dispatcher but he did a great job. The police did a great job today repatriating the kidnapped with family. Charles Ramsey: Hero of abductions case, instant Internet star - CNN.com
