Going to hit the 1month mark in couple days, & I just gotta say I love my C compared to driving a 09 CR-V this past month back & forth from work and to other recreational places. Cut my Gas bill by more than 50%... Just sucks my C is now 1k+ miles old(er)...& I just notice that a circular plastic screw cover on the driver side windshield vent is missing (I need to check my next new car out more extensively before I drive off the lot next time), T_T
Yep. It's quite a contrast to drive 1 vehicle that gets about double the gas mileage of the other. That was the case of my Prius vs. my former 04 350Z. The Z also required premium. Your results are further indication that even though some people don't like the EPA test results (Compare Side-by-Side), they are a decent starting point of comparison since the test procedure is standardized.
These are nice little cars for what they are designed for. We drove a Vibe gt that would get 30 plus on the hiway but in town closer to 25 with the 6 speed manual. This car more than doubles our town driving, sometimes triples. Sometimes we nearly double the hiway miles over the Vibe. Not sure what your car is missing but the dealer should replace it for you. Looks like a plastic cover grommet or something to cover up the screw or w/e...I think I'll call the dealer & see if they can spare me one or whatever. Anyway, what kind of gas should I put in my C? ATM, since it's new and everything & whatever I feel like going with premium...but does it really matter what I put in it?
Is this what you are missing? Missing piece on dash??? | PriusChat (sorry I haven't figured out a correct way to link the older post/photos) After the above post I thought it was normally missing, but mine is missing from passenger side.
The manual says regular 87 octane, and I don't see any reason do use anything else. From what I've heard, premium gas gives no benefit to engines that don't require it. If anything, find a station whose gas isn't E10 (no ethanol). Edit: This post (and the replies) suggests that a higher octane might help if the engine knocks. No idea if it actually works or is a good idea.
Premium is a marketing ploy. It isn't premium in any way over regular gas. (Excepting additives) It is better than regular gas in the same way a super size value meal is better than a small value meal. If you don't need the calories, it will just make you fat. Premium gas has a higher octane rating (usually 91) for high performance cars. Your Prius doesn't need it and will just waste it.
I had this car, but the 2009 Toyota Matrix version. I loved that car, but I was not in love with it...the Prius C stole my heart.
Did anyone else just think for a split second of their Prius getting fatter? "Yea, in 2013 I bought a Prius C, but I kept giving it Premium gas. Now it has a drinking problem and is able to push 18 wheeled trucks off the road just by bulk alone. Its really embarrassing seeing it have to get a tug boat to push it into its parking spot at WalMart." Ok, enough internet for me for today... -Steve
