I was at a dealership in Columbia today (small town south of Nashville) and got my first view of a PIP. Just two weeks ago a salesman at another dealership had told me they were not coming to our area "just to California." Proved him wrong.
They may have bought it from another dealer on the east coast. Some Michigan dealers got them from NY. No incentives. But there are no incentives on the "13 anyway.
yes, they have been in a bunch of states since ordering began in 2011. probably rolled out in a few more this year. i like that pinstripe with the logo, never saw that before.
Interesting pinstriping with the Toyo logo. I wonder if they applied that in Port or at the factory? I would think that for Nashville, Toyota would roll out something like a Music City theme. I take it my "Batman Building' theme PiP didn't make the cut…
Toyota have to compete with new Leaf plant, right? I see there is a $2500 rebate incentive first 1000 plug-ins sold...do you think PiP is eligible?
Leafs are all over the place here, for sure (or is that Leaves?) The location of Nissan's corporate headquarters just south of Nashville probably also accounts for the relatively decent number of plug in stations available in public spaces.
Most pin stripes these days are put on at the dealer. I've seen then being installed at the Honda dealer with the Honda logo. The manufacturer logos are fairly common these days.
Very interesting! A couple of weeks ago, a salesman at my dealership located a PiP in Clearwater blue near Knoxville. I asked them to try a dealer trade, and after they talked to the district manager basically said "No way." So Dianne at Carson is getting that sale, and there should soon be one in West Tennessee. iPad ? HD
I hate pin striping. They used to see them on a lot of cars and the dealer would charge for it. They serve no function whatsoever. It's like the biscuits in a KFC meal. No one ever eats it but we pay for it. Grrrrr!
Pin stripping had a long run. Big option and owner add on during the 60s-90s. Would be interesting to know why it fell out of favor with manufacturers, dealers and owners. Can't say I miss it.
The same reason bell bottoms, acid washed jeans, and curduroy jackets fell out of favor. Every time I see pinstripes, I literally think of my father's Oldsmobile.
