Did that exact same thing when I first got my Gen 2...embarrassing! Luckily the car wasn't stolen and it's a Prius so it uses very little gas.
Thanks guys. I'm glad to know I'm not the only dummy here. No, wait, that didn't come out right. No dummies. No. I didn't mean......... oh never mind.
The ICE will cycle on when the battery drains below 2 pips on the display. It will shut off after it charges, usually to around 4 pips. Rinse and repeat, until you shut the car off. Edit: I forget what the actual SOC thresholds are for the ICE cycling. The display pips are only there for reference. They don't actually measure anything.
A Strange Faint Noise It was close to midnight and I was just coming home from a karaoke show. My MPG had just hit 52.8, and was still showing a full tank. I got out of the car. A cold breeze hit me as I closed the door to my Prius. My finger traced the locking sensor on the door handle…. “ Highway run into the hybrid sun Wheels go 'round and 'round, you're on my mind Restless hearts sleep alone tonight Sendin' all my love along the drive by wire” BEEP…. I headed toward the front door…I believe I had had one too many hard apple ciders. SKS aside I had to find the front door keys. I reached into my pockets. “Honey I’m Home!” I belched as I entered the house. The faint smell of a tuna casserole permeated the pitch blackness. I clapped twice to activate the lamp in the hallway. It illuminated, flickered and then the bulb went out permanently. “ They say that the road ain't no place to start a family Right down the line it's been you and me And lovin' a Prius man ain't always what it's supposed to be Oh, girl you stand by me, I'm forever yours, faithfully” My eyes adjusted and I reached the Kitchen, turned on the light. It’s then I noticed the note taped to the mirror. “ Casserole in the fridge. Please enjoy sleeping on the couch”. Hmm…what is that low rumbling sound from outside? I walk into the kitchen remove the pyrex bowl from the top shelf of the refrigerator and throw it in the Microwave…..I watch as the casserole carousels around and around. BEEP….. “ Prius life under the big top world. We all need high gas prices to make us smile. Through space and time, always another show Wondering where I am lost without you.” Damn Toyota factory Nav. The familiar taste of a casserole served throughout decades. Tied to memories thriftier times filled with youthful struggles. As usual it needs salt. Still I can’t shake the feeling I’ve forgotten something. My mind filled with Karaoke and hard apple cider. Whatever it is, I’m sure it will all be okay. I can make it all okay tomorrow. My fuel savings. I can afford to take her out to dinner. I love Karaoke and Prius. But what is that strange faint noise?
Please note my screen name. Ergo, been there, done that! Maybe not to that extreme, but nonetheless .... Where to buy more brain cells? Mike
Inquiring minds would like to know... these lyrics often come to my mind (what's left of it anyway). With your feet in the air and your head on the groundTry this trick and spin it, yeaYour head will collapseIf there's nothing in itAnd you'll ask yourself Where is my mindWhere is my mindWhere is my mind
I don't understand. If I open the door while the car is still in ready mode my car beeps at me. This has prevented me from leaving the car running.
Maybe the OP can't hear the beep over the cicadas. They’re back! 17-year cicadas return to N.C. for mating spree | CharlotteObserver.com
I think he said he left he car running all night. It would stop and start all night to keep the battery up.
I believe people have slept in the back of a Prius overnight with the Power/AC on intentionally. Not a bad nights sleep for air-conditioned comfort for only 2 pips worth of gas. I'm a light sleeper though, the various sounds the Prius makes, especially the sound of the ICE cycling on/off would keep me awake.
I run with my headlights on all the time and have set the delay to zero seconds, so if the headlights do not turn off when I open the door,I left the car on. This may not work in a c.
Prius certainly has its high points, but controls are simply bizarre. There is absolutely no benefit to having other than a PRNDB gear selector, where putting the vehicle into Park is essentially an automatic reflex after stopping the vehicle. I drive a number of different vehicles each week and going from a manual to automatic transmission is easier than going from "conventional" to Prius in terms of the gear selector. I note that the C has a conventional selector.
I have never had an issue with the Prius gear selector. Heck, how hard is it to select either D or R and then select P when parked ?
