Haven't seen one of these before this morning. Ran across it on Ebay: Toyota Prius Cargo Organizer 2010 2013 | eBay I don't know about you guys, but my storage unit under there is a all over the place because stuff just slides freely in the big open well. Thinking about picking on of these up to at least divide up the chaos back there.
That looks nice. But the compartments seem almost too specific, for those specific items. Since it is an item that doesn't show most of the time, I'm wondering if I couldn't simply make my own partitions in the existing unit, using materials as rough as some black vinyl duct tape and cardboard? It's the "Get Er Done" approach.... But I think with black vinyl duct tape it even could be made to look pretty good, and then I could make the partitions any way I want them to be. I've also thought about lining it with some of that sticky shelf lining material.
I've just stuffed an old quilt in there. Great to always have a blanket for impromptu picnics or whatever. Guess it would also work as padding to help hold stuff in place, if I ever put anything else in there.
I bought one right after I got the car. It works well and keeps things from sliding around. The compartments are sized to accept most of the things I wanted to store, such as a small toolkit. I even found out that the Owner's Manuals fit in the compartments very nicely.
I got our sales person to give me one of these...my Suzuki aerio had one and it was great, even had a built in bucket that you could remove... this one I was not impressed with, its like a fiber material and the compartments are small. It's better that my stuff isn't sliding around but I never would have paid for one after touching it.
I removed the plastic tray and plasti-dipped the whole thing. It prevents things from sliding around and it seems to make the rear a bit quieter. Plasti dip comes in a spray can.
I bought one of these and it is worth the investment if you have the money. I keep the manual, stock bulbs, and a bunch of other random car receipts. It saves a ton of space by placing items there versus the glove compartment. It is durable and not flimsy. I hope that helps. =]
I don't like stuff sliding around in there (like when the tool pouch or flashlight migrate out of the side storage area). However, I want the area open since it holds two folding camp chairs. Plasti dip sounds like an interesting solution...
Cool thing about it is it peels off so if you put something in and it scratches the plastidip you can peel it off and re apply a new coat. So damage to the tray is avoided.
I was just thinking about that.. how durable is that plasticdip for this purpose? It's an awesome space.. I just wished they cut the cargo mat so when you lift it, it doesn't fold. Also, wish the handle to lift it was larger.. I made a handle out of a zip tie instead.
I sprayed 3 layers of the dip so it does not get cut, but if it does I just spot spray it and it mends the dings / scratches.
Interesting idea with the Plastidip. While it's not as reversable as the Plastidip (actually pretty permanent lol) What about spraying it with either the rubberized undercoating or spray on bedliner for trucks in a can? Thinking that would deaden noise from back there and create a nice non skid surface. I may try out the bedliner idea this weekend. (Though I think I still have a can of undercoating somewhere from my Chevelle, then it would be a free mod haha)
