When I had a viewing of a pre production model Prius v, someone who came stuck 2 of their carseats in the back and it looks like maybe another can be squeezed in there, but not certain. The ones in the photo in the link i provided are 'big' seats, or at least bigger than the one i had for my son a few years back. Maybe someone else has actually done it here on PC? I've had 3 of these in the back: Graco Highback Booster - Carolina : Target It was tight, but doable. The kid in the middle needs to be buckled first. Anything bigger might not work.
Sad thing is, in Japan the Prius v (Prius α over there) is available with a 3rd row seat! Whether this works or not depends a lot on the type of seats and configuration.
Can anyone update this thread? Any experiences with 3 car seats? I have a friend with a 3 yr. old, a 1 1/2 yr. old and another coming in September. She has her heart set on a Prius v. Any input?
I have 3 in my 06. I had the rear seat modified to get rid of the hump. I'm running a Graco Natalus, A graco standard convertable, and a graco snugride in there. That said.. I just ordered 3 donio radian rxt's. Those are 17" wide at the max.... my seat has 51" of hip room... they fit. There is a pic out there on the net of 3 of them installed rear facing.. I'm not sure how much room I'm going to have on the passenger and driver seats.. but we'll see.
We've got an 8y/o, 5y/o and #3 on the way and just upgraded from a gen2 to a v, so we'll let you know soon We have two giant Britax Frontiers right now that don't look like they will quite make room for the KeyFit 30 we just picked up for the new baby, though they are definitely much farther apart in the v than they were in the Gen 2. From what I've read the Radians should work fine with the KeyFit in the v. There are a number of threads/pictures online saying it can be done 2012 Toyoya Prius V | Real Mom Reviews Toyota Prius V: Kids, Carseats & Safety Review. Which Hybrid for Your Family? We added it as a condition on the purchase contract on the v. We were amazed that they fit better than our large sedan, I think because the seats are fairly flat. They larger seat we put in the middle for 2yo and the seats for 4yo and 6yo beside.
I second the link posted above -- I found this page a couple months ago and it pretty much answered all of my questions: Toyota Prius V: Kids, Carseats & Safety Review. Which Hybrid for Your Family?
I have a Chicco nextfit on the passenger side. Here is the cradle for our Chicco Keyfit30 in the middle. As you can see, even without the wider seat down in the cradle, the middle cradle is crowding over the driver side seat buckle. The Nextfit is such a wide car seat that it really isn't going to work. You might have better luck with other brands/models.
