Having SKS for my Prius has really spoiled me. Every time I have to use a physical key to lock and unlock my house, I find myself grumbling and wishing it were as cool as my Prius. I want to just put my hand on the doorknob and have it unlock for me. I mean, the technology is obviously there--our cars have it. Does such a thing exist for a house, and if so, is it both secure and practical? And, I'm guessing, expensive?
Keyless Entry for House This is just a quick search on Google. I'm sure they may be other's out there. ~Shawn
Nice, I'd probably go for fingerprint reader, so you don't have to carry around the remote and can give more people access, even temporarily. Found this for $200. Or save some money and make 'em type in a combo, that's what I have now. It is nice, no touching keys for me. Edit: Aw, except for that stinking garage door opener.
An idea to explore... If you have the HomeLink mirror in your Prius, it can "learn" RF-based codes, such as garage-door openers. It is possible that some of these "keyless" deadbolts that have RF-based keyfobs could be learned by the mirror. Thus, you could pull into your driveway and then push a button on the Prius mirror to unlock your house. - Bob R.
