Driving home today, my prius threw the triangle and all the other warning lights. Scanned with my scan gauge got code u0100. I was only a mile from home so attempted to drive it. Car made it 1/4 mile and then died. I had it towed to the house and checked the grounding wires going to the engine and transaxle. The Tranaxle grounding wire was loose so i pushed it together tightly. The car now runs on main battery only, the ICE does not fire up. All warning lights are still present. Nav screen says problem. 12v is good. Any ideas? 511,000 miles btw..
511,000 miles?! Is that a typo? Otherwise congrats! When you ran the car for another 1/4mile, you could have exhausted the traction battery to the point where MG1 cannot spin the ICE. Do you hear anything after you start the car? Does the engine sound like it is trying to turn over, but doesn't? Are you sure you have fuel?
i have fuel and the main battery is showing 1/2 charge. I have found that the engine will run if i hold down start as opposed to pressing it. The engine will then run for 10-20 seconds before shuddering and stalling, 511k is correct.
The best thing to do now is to get the codes pulled since the lights are on. Anyone can guess, but the car will have a good hunch.
If the Engine Control Module cannot be communicated with, then the engine won't start. That seems like a pretty coincidental self diagnosis, so hopefully that's it. Have you checked the connectors on the ECM just to make sure they haven't wiggled loose?
You might just try finding a used Engine Control Module, and swapping it in. Maybe autobeyours.com has one, if not a local yard.
Im going to take it to toyota in the morning and see if they can tell me exactly whats causing it. Would hate to throw money at it and miss.
warranty it... not a chance. Try to sell me a new hv ecu to the tune of $1800, yep. Following codes were present. p3000, u0100, c1310 and p1121. Toyota advised changing the HV ECU (P3000) for $1800, and the coolant flow control valve (p1121) for around $400.(i didnt write the exact prices down) I bought the coolant control valve for $70 and installed tonight. About an hour to install, took it for a test drive around 5 miles, no more check engine light. Will have to drive it around tomorrow to know for sure but fingers crossed that was the main problem. Thanks for the suggestions.
One of the options for P3000 is "HV battery cooling system malfunction". With that kind of mileage, I can guarantee you that your battery cooling fan is in need of cleaning. It is easy to do, and is something that the stealerships don't seem to recognize very often. Many posts here about it, with gruesome photos. Don't go for the $1800 replacement unless you get further info. Please post the freeze frame info here if you can get it from the service dept. The U0100 does make it look like there is some problem with the network communication from the Battery Control Module. If there is overheating going on, that module may be having problems. A used unit from a salvage yard might be cheaper.
