And you need to update Fuelly with your PIP mileage.....unless you are still on your second tank, in which case...I salute you sir!

 

With your commute, it would be highly unlikely that you'd get in the 50's. However, I'm sure you will take some extended trips (wine country) where you can see your mileage increase significantly.

What car are you coming from and what mileage did you get compared to EPA?

 

Based on what I'm reading on how these record holders are getting what they are, you're right. I already notice that on longer drives outside the city, mpg goes up.

Prior to this I owned a 2002 325i BMW Wagon. MPG for that is 21/27. I averaged between 22 to 24 but barely drove in the city.

 

Going for a 73+ mpg 700 mile tank. just about 25 more miles to go. Can't seem to kick the habit.

I rode my bike to the store today just so I wouldn't ruin the mileage with a stupid 3 mile round tripper.
Tomorrow is a driving day. Should do it then, but not sure I'll tank up tomorrow.

 

Thank you F8L, no offence taken. I used pulse at 1600 rpm and glide for most of the tank. While the engine was warming up or when I went faster than 42 mph (70 kph) I let the ICE run at 1200 rpm to cruise along. For the next attempt I am going to try pulsing at 1800 rpm and cruising at 1200 rpm. It seems that 1800 rpm correlates roughly to 20 hp (15 kW) and after studying Hobbit's writing at Sweet spot refinement I decided to try for myself and see where I with my driving style and route would find the best fuel consumption.

 

OK. put this one in the books. 73.5 mpg, 30 mph average, 701.9 miles gen III.
secures my place a little better. This time I swear, no more hypermiling. Tried to squeeze out 73.6 but just couldn't swing it.

I might make it back on the list tomorrow. 460 miles in, 62.3mpg and average miles per hour is over 60

 

That is really good! Especially for chilly Wisconsin.

 

I drove over to Detroit yesterday, it was in the mid 60's low 70's the entire drive

gasoline used = 9.77 gallons 10% ethanol 87 oct
computed MPG = 57.8 mpg
Miles To Empty (MTE) =0 miles reached somewhere around 530 miles.

I got up to 62.4 when I was at 460 miles last night but today's rain and lack of good semi trucks really killed me in the morning.​

 

I think you now have the record for the highest mph for your tank

I am a new comer to this Forum and a novice Prius driver. I had a 2000 Dodge Intrepid R/T 3.5L 18-20 mpg that was crushed by a teenager. So I got a 2012 Prius just last month and researched this forum to learn how to drive it. I was impressed that I immediately got more than triple mpg of the Intrepid, so just wanted to say thank you for very useful instructions.


Actual mpg calculated at a gas station upon filling the tank was 62 mpg.

Techniques: I just used pulse-and-glide (actually I am not yet enough skilled for keeping true ±0% glide thus usually 5-10% power-on).

Conditions: April 14-May 2, 2013; 50-80degF, ~20% time rain.
Escorting two highschool students every morning, which enforces me go/stop at a drop-off waiting line for 5-10 min (this significantly reduces average mph), then drive to my office for 30-35 min through ~5% freeway (55 mph) and ~20% mild up/down hills, entirely urban area, total 17-18 miles. Probably I can’t get 70 mpg; mpg measured till the school escorting is only 30-40 mpg but I cannot skip it.

Tire: Original Yokohama AVID that came with the Prius, pressure not checked

 

It is much easier when you need to have the road to yourself...if you do it in the city - it is much easier when the traffic lights are blinking yellow (turned off).
