Buying another Prius, a Gen III for my wife.

I like the 2010 I just looked at but the CarFax shows its 1st owner was Enterprise for the first 31k. 2nd owner put another 30k on it.

It was certified Pre-owned when first resold.

Anyone bought a rental and not regretted it?

If that's the only issue, perhaps it's a worthy risk.

I'm looking at another 2010 with 35k for $18.7. Seems like a better deal. No rental history and all records.

If it's from the normal daily rental fleet, check on the rental companies reputation for maintenance. Rental cars do get abused, but daily rentals don't get consistently abused the same way every day because they don't have the same driver all the time. That is better than being a long term rental or fleet lease where the car may have been consistently abused by the same driver in the same way, such as flogging it before it's warmed up.

Good points. I think I'm going to avoid this one.

We bought a Prius from Enterprise's fleet. Have had no issues so far (20k later) knock on wood. The type of person driving a Prius isn't the same kind of person renting the Mustang. One excellent thing about the rentals is their maintenance is always done. You never know with a private sale.

FWIW we paid 19k for a 2010 2 years ago w/ 40k on it...and felt we overpaid...18.7 sounds pretty dang high to me. I would think they should be down around 15k nowadays, it's a 3 year old car with a 22k sticker when brand new...

First thing you should do is change the transmission fluid.

Based on my experience with this purchase I would not hesitate to purchase a former rental again, from a national rental car company.

+1 stay away from rentals, I for one has always had "fun" with rental cars. Mustang or not, I rented a Prius before I bought mine, and I've pushed that car a little bit to say the least. I can be a little bias, as I treat my cars like ladies, I would not pick one that I know for a fact has been ridden by everyone:D Don't know if they still have new 2012 left in your area. Here in WA I've seen them go for a little over 21K. My 2013 was under 22K. You can easily get the 3K back at trade-in/private sale. With the current state of economy, used car prices are ridiculous. GLWYS:)

I bought a rental Pontiac Sunfire 13 years ago that was 2 years old. It was back at the dealer for repairs every two weeks for the first year. Granted it was a GM, but even so I will never buy another car that was in a daily rental fleet.

Our prior car was a Dodge Intrepid that had been a rental its 1st 12000 miles. No problems with it at all for its 1st 100k. In fact our son now drives it.

So it's funny if you actually talk to people who bought rentals you'll find an overwhelming majority have had good experiences, and then you'll find the naysayers who post videos like the above who have never done it but like to regurgitate FUD.

Sorry, but I have done it to many of "real" rentals:p The Prius rental took much abuse as well. I did the whole 0-80-0 a few times and power slide a few times to see how it handled (only way to burn a little rubber was to go in reverse:D ) before I bought mine.
Everyone has a different internal calculator, many people think paying MSRP is fine. While KBB, NADA, and Black Book has brand new Prius value at over 2000 under MSRP. Plus Toyota incentives every other month, find a college grad or military family member and get another 1000 off..... why buy a rental? The market right now is just not right for used cars, a few years back and I might agree with you (on the used car part still not a rental!).
If you like to gamble, to each his own. Many say they win money at the casino also, and many goes home on a bus. I just don't see a reason to take the risk for a 3 year old rental car for only 3K less than a brand new Prius. When it comes time to trade in or private sale, you will take another hit for multi-owner vehicle + rental fleet... not a good deal on my book.

Please post the link that displays every car purchase I've ever made for everyone. While you're at it, post the information that shows each car I rented and abused personally back in my formative years.

You seem to have the assumption thing mastered. But until you actually have some factual information to post, best to keep your fingers away from the keyboard.
