:)Drove a little more aggressive and faster than normal this morning in EV mode. Arrived with .7 left (EV). A.M. temperature about the same all week. Arrived home with 1.1 remaining. Will be good when consistently warmer weather arrives and stays.

As some have said, think of the PIP as a more efficient hybrid with the electric boost, not an EV. There will be variations depending on the season, routes driven, and driving techniques. With the warmer weather our PIP is getting better charge. Most indicative, look at your HV to EV ratio. Ours is currently about 75HV/25%EV, with an historical avg of approximately 76MPG. This is more than 20MPG our previous Prius 2010 overall. During freeway drives, where we used to get 52MPG with the 2010, still excellent, we now find this new battery technology is giving us more like 68MPG. We find immense satisfaction with the PIP.

IMO it is misleading to give mpg numbers like this with incomplete information. To evaluate the significance of going from 52 to 68 mpg it is necessary to know how far your trip is. If you get 10 miles on EV and your trip is 20 miles you'd expect 104 mpg (not MPGe). If your trip is ~100 miles you'd expect a 10% improvement or 57 mpg.

Not misleading nor insignificant. It is a legitimate point to say that no matter what your driving style or distance requirements, the Pip will give you better mileage than a regular Prius. Who gets what and when is not the big point. The big point is that some are disappointed regarding the so-called mileage deterioritation that they fear that made a mistake. In WI this winter, I got as low as 7.5--yet I still averaged 78 MPH. That is real economy and the envy of all I know (don't know a Volt owner).

I agree. My daily commute is 50 miles one way. I observe no significant difference in FE between my old 2012 Three and my new PIP when no charge is used. When a charge is used, mpg climbs by 10mpg or so. This is with all freeway driving at 60-65mph. The point is, the PIP is only very slightly better on the freeway when not charged. So slight that it is not noticeable. :)

And the point of that point is there were countless naysayers claiming the added weight of the extra battery-capacity would decrease depleted efficiency. They were wrong.

That in itself is another point. I do all my weekday drivings in EV and still get 54 MPG (overall HV mode average) on regular gas for longer weekend trips. Of course, I also charge for weekend drives so it gives the extra boost over that 54 MPG minimum.

I don't have to give up gas engine efficiency to gain the 11 EV miles.

It got cold here briefly. The EV estimate clearly reflected it. And now that it's warming up again, the value is up again.

Now that winter is finally over, we have a basis for comparison available. The first year is always rough with so little real-world data available and so many assumptions still. Next year's cold season will be much easier to deal with.

I'm looking forward to summer now. The resulting improvement from the warmth sure is nice.

I dipped as low as 10.9 EV miles in the cold of winter. I've slowly crept up to maximum of 12.5 this morning. Temperature difference of about 25 degrees so far.

So I pay Bisco for the 1.5 miles overage?

That pretty much mirrors my experience exactly.. although the highest I've seen in the past few days has only been 12.4 miles.

    Kudos, bisco!
Here's an update on my post #53: Haven't been out ot town or on the freeway in three weeks. Have gone approx. 180 miles at max of 45 mph, with only a couple of brief ICE startups lasting only a couple of minutes each. The estimated range has dropped slowly from 16 down to 14.6 this morning. Morning temps remain in the fifties. 599 miles on this tank, with 1/2 still showing, 97 mpg. due to roughly 400 miles of freeway driving earlier at speeds of up to 70 mph. 29/71 EV/HV ratio. Man, do I love this car!:D I'll have a freeway trip tomorrow, thereby starting the whole process over.

Everyone's trying to reverse engineer a software algorithm from the results it produces. Perhaps someone from the manufacturer would like to tell us how it actually works :)

I only have about 800 miles on my PiP. Full charge EV miles indicated in a morning started at 13.1 its now up to 14.4
