I took the kids downtown via train today, left my Prius in the parking lot of MARTA (our metro). Came back and someone had kicked in the front bumper. It is that lower unibody piece, and the paint is flaking off too.

Any estimates on what it will take to replace? Anyone go down this road before?

If it isn't cracked, it probably could be repaired and repainted, since it is plastic.

    Well, mine definitely is cracked.

I just noticed this morning - I suspect it was from hitting the ridge of ice and snow at the bottom of my driveway.

About three inches of the bottom driver side front bumper is cracked (although still holding on). I might be able to glue it reasonably well, but it will eventually have to be replaced.

Anyone know how much that will set me back?

I've never liked these plastic bumpers. They just don't seem able to survive actual bumping.

      :(

Just to document this cost on a thread for future searches...

Never did persue getting the front bumper replaced, until now. Last week, this same dad, his same kids, were in bumper to bumper traffic. I must have taken the bumper-to-bumper part a little too literally, 'cause I smashed (5-8MPH) into the Lexus SUV in front of me. Cracked my front bumper, lexus' rear bumper. In the body shop this morning, estimate for unibody bumper replacement by dealership-owned body shop: $580.

I paid just under $500 at an independent body shop. New Toyota bumper.

I rear ended someone yesterday. Of course, I cracked my bumper. Fortunately, I did not damage any other piece of my car and the guy I hit was in an old beater and could care less.

Should I expect to pay 500-600 as the posters here said two years ago? Does the Touring Edition have the same bumper as the regular Prius?

I have that same question. I just hit another vehicle today. Thankfully his car was barely harmed. Mine on the other hand was quite messed up. My front right bumper is definitely in need of replacement/painting. any estimates? are there places on line to find replacement bumpers? or can anyone recommend a good body shop in the New York City (Brooklyn) area?

Ebay. You can even find brand new OEM bumpers painted to your color code.

when searching for a replacement bumper, is the 2008 Prius (my Prius year) bumper the same as other year models? Or should i be looking for a 2008 bumper?

2008 is the same as prior 2G model years. Price for unpainted bumper cover is $146 plus shipping at Champion Toyota.

The exact same thing happened to me. The crack was over a foot long but low on the bumper on the side. I got a set of adhesive bumper guard strips and cut them to fit, and covered up the crack quite nicely. Total cost about 40 bucks. I posted pix in another thread somewhere.

cost is around 500-600 around here in nor-cal. just did it last month on my mother's prius after she ran into a post. 500 bucks with no insurance involvement and with some haggling.

I hit a racoon with my 07 ( not touring ) and cracked the lower front bumper. GEICO quoted me at 760 dollars for new bumper and bits and peices painted and installed. I am just going to get the replacement front lower grill for 50 bucks and snap it in myself. but the other prices by the other posters seem to be realistic.
