Just confirmed via Twitter that they are doing this again: http://info.chargepoint.com/EarthDay2013.html
I got one last year. Two actually. I filled out the form. 4 weeks later, no card. So I called the their number to unlock a free charging port and signed up for another one. The week afterwards I received one cc and one keychained sized card. Don't know which promotion sent which card but they both work.
I'm not seeing any option that doesn't involve a credit card. Free means they want a $25 deposit for all access - meaning you'll have an account to access pay per charge stations. The card they offer to just hit up free stations results in a $4.95 charge for that card
Unless they changed the rules, free did mean free in November 2012. I do remember the no cost option being flanked by the $25 minimum and the extra cost for key chain sized cards. It was difficult to see (on purpose I bet). You have to read carefully and bubble the right option. Also, you can't sign up for a free card from the main page "for free." You have to use the link OP provided. There shouldn't be any talk about cost until you physically have the card in your hand.
Uh, if you go to the link I posted, you don't have to use any deposits, or pay for a card, that's the whole point of this link. Don't use the regular signup link.
Yes, thank you for the link. It took me to an easy screen that took my wife's most basic info and said you will get you charge point card in the mail. What a great way to try out commercial charging stations. They must be as good as drugs if you get the first try for free.
It's not first try is free. The card is free. It doesn't work at paid stations unless you deposit money into it. Otherwise, cost is dependent on station owners.
If you sign up for a chargepoint account, but don't provide a CC they'll still create the account.... and you can get the card for free....
