I have a set installed but don't remember what bulb is used. Rather than put the car on ramps and take one out I thought I'd ask! Thanks in advance ES44AC I did search the Prius Chat Shop but it says Item Not Found.. .2010-2011 Toyota Prius Fog Light Kit - OEM Quality
Yes, H11 55w halogen. However, I have 35w H8 halogen bulbs currently mounted in my oem foglights. At 35 watts, they run cooler and put out more than adequate light. IMO, the oem foglights lack a proper cutoff anyway since they are not projectors. The H11 bulbs burn hotter and throw out a lot more glare to oncoming drivers IMO. There is a link in my signature on what modification must be done to mount an H8 in an H11 housing.
Hi xliderrider. I agree that the H11's aren't worth a darn no matter how they are adjusted. The just spray out light in all directions. I am considering just replacing the bulbs with some sort of LED and using them as DRL's. For night driving, let alone fog, imho they are worthless. I like having the blank areas filled with some sort of bulb, but I was hoping they'd actually be useable and not just 'for show'. The latest Prii that I see have led drls in that spot and you really can see them in the daylight. I am betting they are some sort of led panel and not just one emitter. Never saw one up close so I am just guessing. Thanks, ES44AC
Don't bother using LEDs in the OEM foglights for DRLs, they aren't bright enough during the day. I was using my 35w H8 oem foglights as DRLs (rewired to come on in Power On), that's why I wanted lower heat because they were being used during the hot daytime hours. However, this wasn't an ideal setup IMO because they still got pretty hot and the foglights are mounted pretty low and are recessed into the bumper, which limits their visibility to pretty much oncoming traffic and people driving in front of you. You can click on the DRL link in my signature for a thread I have for more detail. I would recommend the Phillips Daylight 4 or 8 DRL kits as DRLs.
Here's a link to the product. At $80 it is a very good value, I spent about half that on some high powered CREE 5w LEDs that didn't cut it. Philips Daylight DRLs Edit: Here's a link to a Prius Chat member who did a very nice installation of the product: Link
Thanks a lot for the info. I considered using those same ones on my 2011 Boxster. At times the Phillips ones seem to be hard to find in the US for some reason. Cheers ES44AC
