    All,

For the last 2 years I wanted to upgrade our 2 2011 Prius II, cars. Between not knowing what exact route to go with equipment, to never really having all the funds needed (daughter in college), it has taken me almost 2 years to complete. At first, I really wanted to go the OEM Fit route and thought I might go the Advent route. However when Alpine came out with their new 8 inch AND with the exact perfect fit kit for my car, I couldn't resist. I also want to thank everyone for their Gen III stereo upgrade postings, because I read them all and they all help me narrow in on what I exactly wanted for my cars.

Equipment installed: (Exact in both Cars)
    Alpine INE-Z928HD
    Alpine Prius Perfect Fit Kit
Alpine PDX 4 x100 Amp (Installed under front seat)
    Alpine SPR-60 (Back Speakers)
    Alpine SPR-17s (Front Speakers)
Xtron 9 inch DVD Touch Screen Headrest HD908T
(Originally bought XO Vision 8184 Headrest but they
were terrible quality and broke during install)
    PDK 4 Gauge AMP Kit
Camry CCD Back up Camera bought off (sony CCD chip) Bought Ebay
TR-7 Video/Parking Brake Over ride (A must HAVE)

The set up was installed by a local install shop. I was excited about being able to hide the GPS and microphone where we did, which makes it look very factory (see Pictures). I was also happy with where they were able to install the mini plug and USB port under the dash area (see pictures).

I also wanted the set up to allow the to kids to watch their headrests, while we (FRONT SEAT) could have full control of the head unit for ourselves, real dual zone. However, I can still send video from the head unit to the rear headrest screens too.

Yeah it cost a pretty penny to get it all done, but I would buy speakers one month, then Amps a couple months later , ect........

Besides, it's still cheaper than the upgraded factory units...

Very clean installs, and I bet even Mama likes 'em, know the kids do. You did good on parts and looks like the labor cost was worth it too.

    Thanks Frodoz737

This started because we have 2 boys 4 and 5 and our closest family is 2 to 4 hours away, so we take long trips often. The Headrest LCD's really keep them happy back there. To think we barely had AM radio in the car when I was small....lol....Yeah it was worth the labor cost to have them custom the usb and microphone, something I could have never done myself.

Alpine knew they needed to do something for the larger than standard 6 to 7 inch screens units. The Alpine INE-Z928HD is 8 inch screen so they made kits for 8 cars to handle the new 8 inch screen of this model stereo. It is just lucky for me, that they currently make a kit for the 2010-2012 non JVC model, Prius cars. The perfect fit kit includes the exact match plastic surround, along with the exact needed wire harness, antenna adapter AND steering wheel control box (which allows all steering wheel controls to function as they should). The kits sell for around $200.

Wish they made one for the JBL version. :( Do you recall how deep the front door wells are for the speakers before the speaker would hit the window or something behind them. Looks like they made extensions out of MDF to give more room. (?)

WELL FIRST OFF...... WELCOME TO PRIUSCHAT.....

Secondly, there is actually pretty much room behind the speakers and the MDF was used to build up the speakers. This was done so the door panel and speaker front would mesh perfectly. I mean, so there would be no gap between the speaker front and the door panel......even the stock speakers used a plastic "spacer" to lift the speakers off the metal door........

I was thinking that the only reason, I believe, it wouldn't fit in a "JBL" car is because the wire harness would not work. Someone with a JBL equipped car would have get rid of the JBL amp and install a new one......I think that is the only reason it would not fit.....unless someone else knows otherwise.......

My plan is to gut the entire audio system - new amp, speakers, head unit, wiring etc. The only thing I would like to keep is the steering wheel control, aux input (if possible), and antennae. But for $200 that is an awful expensive face plate.

Yes but the $200 kit (which is just for the 2010-2012 Prius) gives you the plastic face plate, new antenna connection wire AND the wire harness AND steering control box , which will let you keep all steering wheel controls.

Oh and for the record it has an Aux input, which I use.........BTW.....not trying to sell you on this set up.....just giving info
