Our 2013 Prius 2 has less than 1000 miles and we are going to go to Dallas in July from Ft. Lauderdale. The Prius is not a small car -- it is mid sized. We have owned a number of big cars including Mercedes, BMW, Cadillac, Lincoln, etc. and I feel as good or better about this trip than any other we have taken. Oh, did I mention that I'm 84?
July of 2011 we went from Seaside Oregon to San Francisco, my wife, me, and son. We drove down via Interstate Hwy 5 and returned via the coast route . A nice trip and we were entirely comfortable the entire trip. MPG's calculated were at 54 mpg for the entire trip. One leg from Northern CA along the coast to Seaside was over 60 mpg calculated, with speeds from 40 to 60 MPH on Hwy 101.
I'm doing CA to TN in June and luckily I'll be taking the 40 through North Texas (NM-TX-OK). I'm glad I don't have to drive too long through that state. I've heard a lot of stories about Texas' Highway Patrol.
OP, can you post real world MPG numbers from your trip? Since it sounds like you've done this trip before, would you be able to compare with other cars? Just curious.
