Hi guys, i finally made the decision and after test driving it and so many questions, i made the purchase. It was the only prius persona within a 400 mile radius and it felt so good to buy it. I bought it with 5 miles and it currently has 450 in less than a week. My question is what is the best way to break in the engine? it is just not run it hard for 1000 miles? or maybe more miles? Haven't had the chance to read the manual just yet. Any input would be great. Thank you guys for providing so much helpful information in this forum.
as a former police chief, and buying police cars with our tax money I can tell you what a rep from ford told us, drive it like you are going to drive it, IF you baby it until the warranty is out and something breaks you have to pay, never had a problem, I'm sure other people will disagree and there is a break in guide in the car book,
Thank you, will do. I have been averaging less than 50mpg, more than likely because of break in period. Also, i believe because of the 17in rims.
Congrats! I just got my Persona less than a month ago. I guess the Persona's are much more abundent here. All my local dealers had some stock. Got mine with 3 miles on it. Check out the Wiki link above for break in details. Almost like everyone says, don't worry too much about it. I still drove it easy. I noticed mpg seems to go up slightly and less throttle to maintain higher speeds as of recent. I have yet to get close to 50mpg as well. Oh well, the 17" wheels are worth it and I do live in a hilly area which kills mpg. Based on numerous comments from other about handling, I am sure the 17" help in that area. Point, is, it's worth the mpg hit for me.
Manual says vary speed for first 400 miles and no sudden braking 600 miles. I included "no sudden acceleration" and extended all 3 of these to the first 1000 miles. I'm at 1400 now and hoping to keep her for a long long time.
Yea for me it is also worth the hit in the mpg. I was lucky enough that my local dealer had the only persona around here lol.
The sales man, who is someone my family has done business for years, said there has only been one prius that needed the battery changed and it was a taxi at 500k from nyc. I also hoping to keep her for a long time
I purchased my Persona about 2 weeks ago. Already got it tinted and clear bra so it's ready to go. My buddy was looking to buy a car and after I told him how cool a Persona(basically the rims for me) he went and bought the exact same one.
The dealer I bought from has seven Personas in inventory--Two in black and five in Blizzard Pearl. [Edit: I might be mistaken. They are listed as Prius 3 SE]. [Second edit: ...but they are listed as code 1228]
I purchased my Persona on March 16th. I've driven 1,300 miles and I've averaged just over 50 mpg with my 17" wheels. I do have a very accommodating ride to and from work. I drive between 45 an 50 mph a distance of 20 miles each way. I do accelerate and glide as much as I can. I love my Prius.
Mine got tinted today, and i bought a Curt Trailer hitch and a leather bra for the front. Where i live parking is tight sometimes and thus the reason of the bra and trailer hitch
so the bra and hitch is to prevent bumpers? I don't see how the bra or hitch could really prevent it.
The hitch as a bumper I can personally attest to... but the height of the truck had something to do with it. I was in my truck in a parking lot waiting for my son to get out of work and minding my own business when I felt the truck shake. A girl pulled in behind me and got too close and hit my hitch for the horse trailer. No damage done other than her license plate holder was broken.
