I just picked up a Prius 3 and was thinking about slapping on some custom wheels to replace the ugly hub caps. Anyone from the Bay Area have used rims for sale? :)

You do know that there are some pretty nice aluminum wheels under those ugly plastic hub caps, right?
Just add a few dollars worth of center caps and it's a total change....

Yeah, I'm aware of the aluminum black wheels but wanted a bigger size, 17 to 18. ;)

What is the advantage, if any, for the larger wheel size?

Don't expect to get anywhere near 50 mpg when you put those 18" wheels on the car

Agreed unless you can hypermile like mad. LOL

    Big wheels = mpg loss

Check the classifieds section. People are always selling wheels in there. Older Scion tC, Matrix wheels will fit as will Lexus CT200h and Scion FR-X.

Handling, stability, safety and looks are increased. Well, looks can be decrease with the wrong wheel choice. Mpg suffers as does acceleration and they cost more to run because the tires cost more and they wear out faster.

Thanks for the info. I really like the CT200H wheels on your car, it does mesh well with white. I don't mind the mpg hit but acceleration, ouch! Price to pay for roll in style i guess :D

You'll really only notice it at part throttle. :) The car is so slow already that its not like it makes a huge difference. It just feels, heavier.

If you want the handling and style points then go for it! :)

I sold them awhile back. I'm driving on the stock PIP wheels now. Not as nice as the CTs but a compromise between comfort mpg and looks.

    I can't wait to see pics! :)

Can the lowering springs be put on or do you have to also get shocks/struts(whatever it has)? not very knowledgeable when it comes to the mechanics of a car. Id also like to do the TRD lowering springs.

Plus or trd springs are designed to work with stock shocks.
